No, that would be illegal...but if they suspect that there is contraband in the letter, the Drill Sergeants will make them open it in front of them...

What's the point when the US Medical Officer prescribes amphetamines to US Pilots?

If I were pulled over by the cops in a car and tested for drugs and had so much as a prescribed anitbiotic in my system, I would be booked and not allowed to drive the vehicle.

But hey ho, the fact someone in the military has a lethal weapon of mass destruction underneath his butt, or even a rifle or grenade in thier hands means nothing to Medical Offices who regularly keep prescribing drugs to troops.

1 cig won't even register on the richter scale for them might I suggest?

I appolgise for my bluntness, but facts and war are brutal. Oh for sure I understand why such drugs are being prescribed to troops - to keep them awake given they have no time to have proper rest periods.

Does 2 "wrongs" make a right - even in the theatre of war?

The Commander-in-Chief issued the order to send the Military into war, he should ensure, come what may, that the coffers are full to the brim to pay for resources to get the job done - preferably without the aid of drugs !

You say "one of my brother's recruit mates received a cig ...recruits mail" speaks volumes.

If this person feels the need to take drugs when he is a recruit... I rest my case !

Everything becomes so very clear about the US Army's behaviour in the theatre today.

So, I thank you for enlightening me here.

The only time your mail is opened is if you are recieving a large parcel or letter and it is the recepient that opens it in front of your section commander or if you recieve a letter from your girlfriend and she's fit and you've got her pictures up above your bed and your section commander's seen them he'll open your mail in front of you but this is only if you get along with him and his doining it for a laugh which is harmless fun for all the troop. Plus recieving a cig throught the mail is allowed as long as it doesnt contain any drugs, but me personally I wouldnt smoke it because you never know even if it is a mate and you will get drug tested.

No. The only time Army mail is censored is when on active service.
