My cousin said a friend told her everyone has to razor cut their hair in the Marines. I want to be a real Marine, but can I just keep a long French braid and tie into a bun?

no.
you have to keep the hair off the collar,
no pins or bands form showing It is recomend that you find the smae band color as your hair. since you will be going to Paris island SC where is very hot. I recomend getting your hair cut, try a bob cut. it would save you time,
you won't have time to french braid your hair.
I had cut my hair short when I had enlisted , it was the best idea ever,
oh yeah here is another tip, make sure that you don't get your sirs and mame's mix up. make sure you know who are speaking too. it happens, and it is not good when you do.

As a female marine you cannot have your hair touch your collar. Also you cannot have pins and bands showing. So you can get a chin length cut or have a bun/braid. Those grooming standards are for men.

Seriously, have you seen women with buzz cuts on the TV live from Iraq?

i grew to become into stationed on a marine delivery ships while i grew to become into interior the army. lots of persons on the deliver (the two marines and sailors) might placed money right into a collection of clippers so that they might decrease their very own and/or one yet another’s hair as a manner to stay away from the long strains on the deliver’s barber shop. of course, no longer anybody did it (in any different case, who're those human beings status in line), and it somewhat wasn’t a call for.

I believe the Marine Corps requires females to have a feminine haircut. you won't have to get a razor cut unless you're male

This is false. Women don't have to razor cut their hair. You may have your hair tied up as long as it doesn't touch your collar. Most female service members find a short bob to be easier to manage.

I would suggest that if you are worried about your hair, you are not cut out for the Marines.

Nope. Only the US Navy makes everyone cut their hair.

Look up "USMC grooming standards", or look at either of the links below.
