How and what materials do I need to make a box that activates lights with by reading sound vibrations?

i already have a bar of lights. i want to stick the box on a speaker and have the lights alternate to the rythm of the music.

Already been done. It's called 'the Clapper'. There are other things that do what you want. Discos used them in the '70s. Easier to buy than to make.
