Most animals make a point of avoiding humans, whereas humans go out of their way to make animals' lives miserable, destroying their homes to build houses for ourself, destroying countryside/forests (or what remains of them).
Animals live off the land while still living in harmony with it.
Humans destroy the land by taking more than we need.
Animals are beautiful. Humans are strange.
Animals are intelligent. Humans LIKE to think we are intelligent.
When animals attack humans, it's out of fear, protection, defense, etc. Whereas when humans attack animals, it's through sadism, entertainment, greed, etc.
Sounds depressing, however it's nothing but the truth.
We think we're intelligent because we have speech. The only reason we have our type of speech is because we're too insensitive and stupid to communicate in other ways.
Animals do have speech, they do talk, just not in a language humans understand. If they didn't, then how the hell do they manage to communicate with each other??

We are animals, so the differences are the same as if you asked the difference between cats and dogs. We are different than other animals because we are a different animal. We have different DNA, different appearance, different mental ability, and some characteristics that are considered specific to humans, speech, logic ect.

Man was created from the dust of the ground - the natural material elements this planet is composed of. That is the human physical body.
Not until the BREATH of LIFE was blown into his nostrils did Man become a 'Living Soul'. Word 'Soul' derived from Hebrew word 'nephesh'. Both animals and humans have a soul.
The soul has no spiritual component.
Anagram of Breath - (Heart/Beat/Earth).
Both Man and animals became living souls when the breath of life was given to them. They DO NOT have immortal souls that wonder around after death. When Man and animal die they become dead souls. When the power source is removed.
Two main differences between animals and Man - There are others.
1. Animals were created, each, after their own kind.
Ex. monkeys were made after the monkey kind,
horses after the horse kind etc.
Man was created - NOT of the Man kind, but of the GOD kind.
2. There is a SPIRIT in man - Not to be confused with the Holy Spirit. This spirit can not see, hear, smell, or feel.
It is the physical brain that does all these things.
The Spirit gives the power of intellect and reasoning to the physical brain. The Human spirit is, as its name implys, composed of Spirit - unseen.
It is this Spirit that returns to its Creator ( as a type of blue print) on the death of the physical body.
Animals do not possess a Human Spirit.
This is not an easy subject to explain in a short reply.
Let us quickly look at the computer I am using to write this reply.
The computer is composed, basically, of a lump of plastic and electronic components (physical body). Of itself completely useless.
It is not until I connect it to a power supply - electricity, that it shows any sign of live.
The computer contains a hard disc (physical brain) initially empty. To enable me to access the hard disc I need to install an operative system (Spirit).
I also need to install various programs from an outside source to enable me to utilise the brain power of the machine.
The programs I install dependant on the work I wish to do.
Is this not a case of the created becoming a creator, in much the same way as we were created.

To me nothing. They all have some kind of natural powers to help them survive. Humans have reasoning and animals may vary. Just because , we understand does not necessarily mean animals cant. People are just humancentric, racecentric, religioncentric, selfcentric etc. We are centric in mostly everything we do.

All mammals are animals including humans. Humans are the dominant specie due to their ability to communicate verbally and record knowledge through writing.

Humans are animals...but one thing that separates primates (which includes humans) from other animals, is opposable thumbs...we also tend to reason better than other animals.

we're still very much mammals.
like Carl said, it's mostly the enlarged brain and the abstraction capability and the self-awareness. Will that be a long-term successful trait? Who knows? In terms of evolution, we haven't been around that long.
