As a straight woman, I think it is appalling that so many people discriminate against gays. What is the issue?

Don't give me the Bible fairy tale quote nonsense. Think logically for once. Look at the REAL picture, not at the picture your church tells you to look at.

Gay people are working contributors to society. They pay taxes, they own businesses, and they vote. They show love to their partners. So why can't the Christian coalition get past what these people do in the bedroom? Is it really any of their business?

I answered a similar question to this one just a few minutes ago, and I'll give you the same answer in a nutshell.

I have no clue, really. I personally believe homosexuality is a sin, but so is lying, or eating too much, and I'm not about to judge someone for doing either one of those, because I am also guilty.

From the bible I have read, we are all equal in Gods eyes, and as Christians we are not to judge, but to love. Your personal faith is between you & God. Not me, you & God.

I may not agree with someone's lifestyle, and I don't have to, and they don't have to agree with mine, but it's not my place to not allow them to have that lifestyle, or to judge them for their actions.

So I say go for it. I think it's absurd that it's not legal, and I agree that it is no ones business.

I don't discriminate against homosexuality, but I don't condone the practice. The guy who did my hair for 10 years was gay, we got along fine. He knew how I felt about homosexuality, but I didn't treat him any different than I would treat anyone else. We even had some great discussion on why he became gay...he had been molested by an uncle when he was young.

Now I have worked with Lesbians that have come on to me. That I did not like and I felt that it was disrespectful to me and made me very uncomfortable. Do what you want in the privacy of your home, as long as it does not involve children, but get it out of the work place. I do not want to think about anyone having sex, whether gay or straight.

If only they would keep it to their bedroom.

With so much hate and violence in this world, it baffles me that people condemn others for LOVING someone of their own gender.

We have a lot of progress to make in this world...those who love each other despite how they are outcasted in our society are a true example to all of us.

Having anger and hatred toward another human being for loving someone of their own gender should go against everything that "God" would stand for anyway. If the being that some people call "God" is so judgemental and angry over gay and lesbian people loving each other...why would people support that notion?

I was taught that hate or discrimination or outcasting of any kind is wrong and immoral. I could never support a religion that made those concepts acceptable.

Gay and lesbianism is NOT wrong...it is a bond between two people...and there is nothing more beautiful than the concept of love.

Christian organizations want to impose "way of life" on everyone, and they have a problem with respecting other people's right to disagree with them.

At first they attacked the Muslims, for a piece of strip of land in the Palestine. Later they targeted pagans and forced an entire hemisphere to convert to their belief or die.

Now they attack neo-paganism, Gays and Lesbians, atheists, and other beliefs.

If we all yield, and let Christians get away with dictating us how to live our lives, the next you will see is a battle for the Christian denominations (Baptists against Pentecostals, Disciples of Christ against Methodists, etc). No matter what they achieve, they will find a new "enemy" and believe me, the new enemy will also be considered the "Devil".

so many PEOPLE discriminate against Gays, its only the homophobic Christians that use the bible to feel better about their hatred. I know plenty of people who don't give a flying fart about what the bible says and they hate gays too. Why do so many people hate gays? because they don't understand and people tend to fear what they don't understand and "fear leads to anger...anger leads to hate.."

Just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean you are discriminating against them. I do look at the picture of what my church says, because I follow the Bible. That is my choice. Logic has nothing to do with my beliefs, that's why they are beliefs.
I have gay friends, it doesn't mean I agree with how they live, that is their business. I do not shove my religion down their throats, they know what I believe. It is not my business, you are right about that. It doesn't mean I have to like it though.

True Christians don't - they have embraced their teachings of tolerance, peace and justice, and understanding.

There is a tiny yet strident minority of "christians" that preach hatred, bigotry, prejudice and therefore violence against LGBT people. Such people are more correctly called "hypocrites."
Who are they to disparage any of God's children, or any of God's gifts?

We are all so lucky to have true Christians in this world, and we are all praying for the "christians" to turn back to God and stop their hate.

EDIT - I also have to feel bad for the people who are under the delusion that only LGBT people particpate in anal sex.

And therein lies your problem. As an atheist without morals, it is incomprehensible to you to take a stance on moral issues.
We "discriminate" because GOD "discriminates". God created the human body, and He wrote the Rules about its proper use. He has stated quite clearly that this abuse of the human body is an abomination to Him. If He had never said such a thing, we would be believing just like you.
However, we do believe that even homosexuals may go to Heaven, if, and only if, they repent of their behavior and turn from it.
All the great things you say that gay people do for society won't mean a thing when Christ returns and destroys that society.

their gawdang bible DOES say it is abomination.

I grew up in NYC and lived there 26 years. I am surely tenfold more liberal than the continental US but still I grew up fearful of gays.... these mainstreamers have never outgrown that fear.

Many of these people are indeed homophobes, incestuous, on the downlow... they are caught up in thier 'specialness' and they are materialistic and dont want ANYONE near their STUFF (money, land, equity, etc) because that is their true God. 'Gay' threaten them deeply because they are different.

I should imagine that it is difficult to be logical towards homosexuals when they are brought up in an illogical, ignorant backdrop of mythology, and actually believe it. If someone raised you from birth to believe that an almighty prick in the sky would smite all sinners, would you really be kind to someone who sins in their very existence?
