Your car's computer probably has what's called the "OBD II" protocol. It stands for "on-board diagnostics, generation 2". You can buy a code reader at most car parts stores, plug it in, read the codes and reset the light. Make sure you find out what the code is trying to tell you, it could be important! Your code reader should have a chart to tell you what the codes mean, or you could get the Haynes manual, subscribe to AllData DIY or google it. The most common code is P0442: tighten your gas cap.
By the way, most car-parts stores will read the codes for you for free, but they won't reset the light. Their job is to sell you stuff, not do you free favors.

The standard procedure on Chrysler vehicles is: Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Turn the ignition key to start for a few seconds. Replace the ground cable, start the car and drive. If the light comes back on, you have a problem that needs attention.

In most cases if your not using the car would be just disconnect the battery and leave it for a few hours or over time. The other way and the way you should do it is go to advance auto i think it is and get it done for free. they'll check your engine codes and tell you what could be wrong.

Get a Haynes Repair Manual at the local Auto Zone or auto parts store in your area. It will troubleshoot and show you how to fix your vehicle. Also on the Auto Zone site has a section for vehicle maintenance
Best bet is to go to an auto parts house, Auto Zone, or Advance, O'Reilly and get a free diagnostic test and see what is wrong. Also check ALL your fluid levels too.

You take off positive and negative terminals have some one hold the two together away from battery, then step on the brake. This will pull any and all stored power in the computer and will reset your light. Then just reconnect terminals to battery.
