Take her to the dentist. I had this as a kid. Her bite is off and the dentist will simply make an impression of her bite, then file down a couple of her molars; after that, she shouldn't have the prob. It got so bad for me that I literally couldn't crack it anymore and my jaw wouldn't open all the way!!

this is called lock jaw and it happens to some people sometimes for a bunch of different reasons. stress is a big factor but since she is a 7 year old I'm sure that it is not that. i have had this since i was very young as well and if you don't pop it it will lock up and it is very difficult and painful to unlock back into place. i think that it would be a very good idea for you to bring her into a Dr. just to make sure everything is OK.

TMJ. It is a popping of the jaw. It is caused by excessively chewing gum, jerky, or anything else that is strenuous on the jaw muscles and joints. It cause a slight disalignment and popping.

Irresistible habits (tics) like that can be a symptom of Tourette syndrome. Is there anyone else in the family with obsessive compulsive disorder? TS and ocd are pretty much the same disorder, just come out in different ways. Or, is there anyone with ADD? That belongs in there too.

she may have lose ligament or spasmodic jaw muscles. Tell her to stop doing that. Avoid chewey food...if spasm is an issue you might want to find a chiropractor who deals with TMJ problems as pterigoid massage could alleviate it quite nicely...

Maybe it's just a bad habit. It's a good idea to get her checked out by the doc, but she'll probabaly grow out of it. Good luck, I hope everything is o.k. I'm sure it is.

There could be a problem with the Temporomandibular Joint or TMJ. Have a doctor look at it on x-rays.

I used to have a friend who did that. They said it didn't hurt but it looked and sounded painful. He said it was somthin he just did from time to time. But he stopped when i told him how gross it was. But i would take her to the doc just to check, make sure she isn't damaging anything.

Google "TMJ"
GET HER TO STOP!!!
It will get worse
I got a lot better after my wisdom teeth got pulled. Maybe her jaw is getting distorted too.
