And does a blood test show that you have been smoking cigars, or does the doctor have to be using a specific test. I need this for a research paper so any links about this would be great.

Of course they do! Cigars are made out of tobacco and tobacco contains nicotine, but it's cured differently than cigarette tobaccos.

Cigar tobaccos are cured to be slighly alkaline, whereas cigarette tobaccos are cured to be slightly acidic. The slightly acidity has to do with being able to be absorbed in your lung or in your saliva.

Cigar smoke should never be inhaled - the nicotine from the tobacco absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the saliva, it is not meant to be inhaled - too alkaline for the lungs to absord the smoke efficiently.

Your doctor will never be able to test whether you had nicotine in your system from cigarettes or from cigars, but the smell alone will give you away!
