you don't burn as many calories as you do during a weight workout as opposed to a cardio workout. however, you continue burning calorie for many hours after a weight workout, whereas cardio your calorie burning rate drops signifcantly once your workout is done. your pretty much back to your resting metabolic rate about 1-2 hours after a cardio workout. also, it's often difficult for people to be in the proper fat calorie burning zone of their workouts. so what happens is they end up burning as much if not more muscle than fat. as far as calories burnt during half an hour of lifting weights, it all depends on the amount of weigh you're lifting and how many reps you can get done in that amount of time. some who can lift 400 lbs can burn 4 times as many calories as someone who can only lift 100 lbs. it all depends on the physics. calories are units of energy. work is a measurement of energy. you do more work by lifting more weight. does that make sense?

A lot less than while running. After one hour of fitness I was losing only 100 grs or not at all. Stay to cardio if you want to burn more calories.
