when you open it open it as read only it will disable saves. but this will not stop anyone from copying the content and saving it in another location with a differant name.
this is how
1.right click the saved doc. -this will open up a drop down menu
2. click on the option properties in the dropdown menu
3 after a new menu appears make sure the general tab is selected
4 after the "general" tab is selected there will be three choises in the "attributes:" section
5. the three options are "read-only", "hidden", and "archive"
6. left click the box next to the "read-only" option

Save them as a .pdf using Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is a free download and has lots of flexible tools for docoument sharing and saving. a .pdf file is basically a "picture" of your document. It takes much less file space.
To keep it as a Word.doc, you could protect your document by clicking on the Options Menu. The Security tab allows you to save your document as a "read only."
I hope this answers your question.

Yes, but you must have a certain version of Windows, download the Rights Management system add-on, have access to a .Net Passport account, and be part of a Rights Management server in order to access your own work.

if you wanna share your files you want others to see it but you don't want to edit them the content right?
I suggest that you convert it to .PDF format.
you can use SONIC PDF CREATOR
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/PDF/Sonic-PDF-Creator.shtml
it converts WORD documents to PDF.
(sadly it's easy for others to copy/edit it because there's a PDF to DOC converter.)

Go to Tools>Options>Security
You can set passwords here that will limit what people can do with your document
