Well advantages are they won't drift off with another lady. Disadvantages could be they are not themselves around the girl which can't be quite fustrating. It's hard for shy people when meeting new people and being with some-one but everyone are shy if you think about it

i couldnt have a shy man as my partner, i like someone who is full of life, lots of fun, and got lots of mental energy to keep the relationship alive. :-)

disadvantage:
sometimes they only look shy, once you are with them - they become more outspoken - not always a good thing. Trust me
