MANY.....
Pretty every Chief Nurse of the Army, Navy and Air Force has been a one star General or Admiral. The first was Army Nurse Corps Colonel Anna May Hayes (June 1970)
Outside the NURSE arena, there are also women generals and admirals.
Grace Hopper, Admiral, USN. (Also has the DDG-70 Destroyer named after her. ) Her work was in computers. (She makes Bill Gates look like an Atari gamer.)

Generals Desjardins and Born of the USAF Academy are both female, and thats just on one base. It is definetly possible, but far less common, as in the Army and Navy women cannot perform all jobs (infantry, submarines, spec ops) and in all services they are a much smaller percentage.

In the US Navy, the first woman admiral was a scientific, techno-geek and she taught. She never fought, and perhaps, was never on a ship. Sorry, can't remember her name, but 60 Minutes did a story on her.
