the cd itself that i'm about to copy is still playable, but now i want to make a back-up copy. i tried copying it using sonic digital media, but the software can't copy some of the segments.

You might try a CD cleaning kit if the scratches aren't very deep. This type of kit uses a very fine abrasive which lets you polish the CD surface and hopefully remove scratches, making it fully readable again.

You could try filling the cracks with PASTE toothpaste. This can work to help it read through. I did use it on a badly scratched CD and it did work. But you should make your copy and then get rid of the old one.

this is the best solution yet i've been doing..

try to make an image copy of that cd using power iso software
if the image can be created.. the u can burn that image into a new cd.. as many as u like..:D:D:D

If you have any of the CD burners installed in your PC, especially Roxio CD burner, use the CD repair tab to copy it and then burn it unto another CD.

Try Turtle Wax.It will fill in the scratches.

buy one of those scratch fixer machines from hastings or walmart they're about $20 i don't know if they work very good or not, or you can buy the cd again
