Travelers checks are a hassle.

I suggest a Debit card that has a VISA/MC logo, most businesses in most countries accept VISA/MC.

If not, there's usually an ATM nearby that will allow you to withdraw money from your account, in the local currency.

Just be aware of the exchange rate, so that you can keep track of how much money you are spending.

Travelers Checks can be better than currency. If lost, they can be replaced. But what they don't tell you is that replacing the checks is not instantaneous. You may also have to go out of your way to find a location to get the replacement. Some places where you travel may not accept Travelers Checks. Credit cards usually give you a reasonable money exchange rate and are easier to carry than Travelers Checks. Always get some currency just in case you need something and Checks or Credit Cards are not accepted. With Checks and Credit Cards, you do not have to worry about converting to your native currency when travel is done.

Travelers checks are good, but it would be best to use the currency of the country you're traveling to.

Obviously it is best to use local currency. Bring your debit card so you can withdraw money there in the local currency. Or if your debit card has big fees attached to it, you can bring traveller's checks and exchange them. Most tourist places will take US dollars.

Learn a little about the currency that the country you're visiting uses, so you don't get cheated out of your money.
