keeping an outside cat inside is cruel. also, in the uk at least, cats are classed as free-roaming animals, therefore can roam the neighbourhood, gardens etc all he.she wants. obviously you wont let your cat out to play on the motorway, but give them a bit of credit, they are not thick and will soon suss out danger zones and no go areas. my ginger tom goes out for days on end, never gets lost, comes back in for a bite to eat, if i shout out the window for him he will be through the cat flap in seconds. he just loves being outside. cats will sleep all day, its their nature, dont worry.

A cpl things, you should never leave your cat out all night with out you watching them. Depending on where you live, coyotes, owls or any other predator will eat ur cat if given the opportunity, or he could get kittynapped or hit by a car. They're also more suseptable to disease, ticks and fleas and what have you. We let our cats on the patio, but only when we're outside with them, and they come in when we go in. Do you only have one cat? If they had someone else to play with, maybe they wouldn't sleep all day and stay out all night. But my biggest suggestion to you is to keep ur cat indoors, maybe he already caught something from being outside all the time and got sick?! If he's sleeping excesively (cats generally sleep like 20 or so hours a day- its what they do) how old is ur cat?, is he overweight ? these are also things you need to take into consideration

Hang on - he stays *out* all night, or he stays *awake* all night?

If he stays awake all night, this is totally normal. Cats have nothing to do in the day when you are out, and they can sleep 16 hours per day.

If he's outdoors all night, you need to keep him inside!! Cats should not be allowed to roam the neighbourhood - especially at night time. The only time they should be allowed outdoors is in your garden, if he cannot escape.

Most accidents, fights, injuries, thefts and other dangers happen to cats at night time. If your cat is an outdoor cat, please start keeping him indoors, or at least only let him out where you can actually see him, and for a short time only.

Cats are nocturnal, and it's normal for them to sleep upwards of 18 hours a day. If your cat is bothering you during the night, excercise him in the evening before you go to sleep so that he will be tired too.

thats perfectly normal, in fact if he is anything like our 4 i am amazed he has the energy to stay out all night.. do you have a catflap so he can get back in at night, you really do need one. It is quite normal for a cat to sleep 18 hours a day

My cat sleeps all the time. She hardly ever goes out unless i put her out to get some fresh air and exercise. Cat are nocturnal but get her/him up and put it out in the morning and it will be tired at night time. Try and change its pattern a little.

Hiya, One of my cat's sleeps all day goes out in the evening, comes home for his supper, goes back to bed sleeps all night. My other cat sleeps all day, gets up for his supper and then goes back to bed sleeps all night. It is said that cat's are more at danger going out at night they are more liable to go missing. But i have had cat's that loved being out at night and they never came to any harm.

Sure, lots of cats do this. If you're not at home during the day, there's not much more for them to do than sleep. My in-laws male cat does the same thing...I gues they like to go out at night like humans do, huh?
