i would start looking into location now, more the location of the reception. (the reception halls book a year in advance sometimes) You can start interviewing photographers and florists, to find the ones you like.
wedding dress......how picky are you?? it took me a long time to finally find the dress i wanted (and at a good price). i would also start looking at dresses too either trying them on or looking online/mags to get ideas.

NOW!!! most places won't book you for a venue until it is a year away, but they fill up fast, especially in summer so you need to look NOW. The dress, give yourself at least 6 months to 9 months......with alterations and/or custom details. Go buy a wedding planning book with a checklist in it - The Anti-Bride Guide is a cute one with a checklist and lots of helpful tips. Things will go smoother the longer you have. Also, start paying payments to all of those people as soon as you book them, so you don't have to pay the photographer, the florist, the venue all right on the day you get married. You will have other things to think about on your big day!!!! Congrats!

Congrats!!! Let the planning begin!! You only get to tdo this once. I am getting married 6/21/08 and got engaged on 12/25/05 and I have been planning the whole time figuring out what I like and don't like, what I want there, how do I want it to feel to the guest, etc. Go to the store and start loading up on the wedding catalogs and start planning away!
Conrgats again and have fun!!

I am getting married in summer of 2008 also. The sooner you start to plan the better. I have started to make guest lists and I am pricing out things and deciding on my decorations. It is really great that we both have alot of extra time because you can really shop around and get the best prices too and there is time for custom orders. I have a binder where I am keeping all my ideas and such!

You should start now. That way you have pretty much your pick of locations and dates. Some stuff takes a while to get nailed down. The sooner you start and get the planning out of the way, the sooner you can relax and enjoy being engaged and just waiting for the wedding to get here.

NOW! Find your location first and quick. Wedding venues book fast and way in advance. Once you have a location, everything else will fall into place. I would suggest booking your photographer and or videographer right after that. Then depending on how formal you are going, find a dress. Next color choices, attendant choices and their attire, invitation selection, and guest lists.
If you can afford it, hire a wedding planner. Otherwise, buy Martha Stewart's wedding planner guide.

Now is never too soon to start planning especially if you are having a big wedding. You will have more of a selection regarding the location if you book now. The more you get done now the less you have to worry with later down the line. It is also so much more stress.
Congrats and good luck to you.

Soon as possible.... you start with the location and your dress first. Sounds silly but the style dress you pick will kinda be the center of the theme of your wedding.... it will then be easy to pick out bridemaids dress, flowers, and invites. I know some who planned everything and then bought their dress later and she had to change everything because she though she wanted a puffy cinderalla dress then found a 30's style beaded one that she loved. So everything went from frilly to sleek!! Get the dress first and start looking at places. Also the more time you give yourself the better so you have more time to make payments.

Get an exact date settled first. Next thing to do is book the church and pastor/minister/priest. Then, depending upon what type of city/town you are in, you have to scout around for venues and caterers. Some have to be booked a year in advance. Other stuff can wait a bit. Oh, if you are in a city and want a live band, that will probably need to be booked a year ahead too.

It's never too early, especially for the location, the good places book up years in advance. I would suggest starting an account on www.theknot.com. You plug in your wedding date, and it tells you what you should be doing right now and then each month it adds more things. I tell you I could not be planning my wedding without it. It definitely keeps me on track. It even tracks my spending on the budget calculator. I use it everyday and it's free. Congrats and good luck.
