Straight not staight

I am straight and the don't ask don't tell has been around since 93. That was Hillary first agenda item. If the military takes away the don't ask don't tell it will bode worse for gays. The vast majority of the active duty disagrees with the policy and agree whole heartily with General Pace. I'm one of them.

The argument that two gay service members can have sex and therefore cause a discipline problem is irrelevant, because a straight couple can do the same thing, even aboard military vessels. Females serve on Navy aircraft carriers alongside men. The individual's sexuality has no bearing on their personal conduct.

The idea of separating the armed forces by sexuality is illegal. We used to keep the black service members in separate units because some people didn't want them serving alongside whites. How is this any different?

People should be judged by their conduct and their professionalism. A gay man/woman is not any more or less professional than a straight man/woman. There are many, many more instances of heterosexual conduct causing discipline problems in the military than homosexual ones.

And a professional should be able to separate his personal feelings from his professional conduct. In this instance, I'm talking about the heterosexuals that 'disagree' with homosexuality. Whether you believe homosexuality is a choice or biologically influenced, it doesn't matter. A soldier can't be excluded from service because of his (biologically influenced) skin color. And a soldier can't be excluded from service because of his (choice of) religion.

You don't have to like it or agree with it, but you do have to respect their rights. Fifty years ago, many people didn't want blacks to serve in the military. Today, there are people that believe Muslims should be excluded from service. Do you support those types of segregation as well?

Men, Women, Gays, Straights, Black, White; all of these people (and more) can make fine soldiers & warriors. I don't care about any of that about the person next to me in the fighting trench; I only care that he or she is a professional warrior and will get the job done. Prove that you can do that, and I don't care if you're a purple skinned transexual from Alpha Centauri.

I agree with General Pace. If gays are in the military without the current policy we will have huge problems with order and discipline. For example, an open gay who is not promoted or given a choice assignment could then formally question that action - I can imagine the time and paperwork that would generate daily.

Can you imagine an openly gay couple on a submarine? Keep them out of subs - then we would be discriminating.

Most non gay young men fear male gays. They fear an approach by a gay that would in turn stigmatize them regardless of their reaction to the gay overture. Gay bashing is often an attempt to demonstrate "I am not gay".

Sorry, I didn't serve with gays. It's much too problematic to having 75 guys showering together. The only way that gays will be welcomed in the military is if they have their everything away from the normal enlisted men.

The policy is ineffective anyway, many homosexuals are in the military, and are open about their sexuality. I personally don't care as long as the job gets done.

I would serve next to a gay guy if he was competent and I thought I could trust him. I wouldn't take a shower with him, but I would treat him with respect that he deserves.

I don't understand the arguement against it.

Anyone who says no is basically saying that they hate (or fear) gays so much that they will refuse to serve their country simply because their country refuses to discriminate.

What have we come to when the act of non-discrimination is so abhorrent to people that they value bigotry over patriotism...

If I was young enough, sure. I knew several gay folks and they were such good workers I never ratted them out.

WTF does being straight or gay have to do w/being able to support your fellow soldiers--- Can they shoot accurately, can they see the enemy before the enemy sees your *** should be the first two questions ..IT TAKES 2 --why are ppl so homophobic, they aren't gay to themselves... they always require a WILLING partner just like the straight ppl do... Grow the PHUCK up...I wouldn't care if the entire military was gay, as long as we had a military for us to rely on...
