Pro 1: Islamic radicalism vowing to destroy the United States and Israel is being confronted and drawn into Iraq.
Con 1: This takes time and the American people are susceptible to disinformation, misinformation, and are impatient.
Pro: The foreign fighters, mostly Al Qaeda, are being destroyed and demoralized by the US military. We are killing their best and brightest and most fervent Islamic fascists.
Con: Some of our best and brightest are dying also but they are all-volunteer dedicated to destroying America's enemies.
Pro: Future 9/11 attack planning is being disrupted by US military operations in the backyard of the Islamic radicals. This makes it hard for Al Qaeda to coordinate overseas operations against the US.
Con: Many Americans cannot understand this concept as the media is anti-war and anti-military, just like the Democrat liberals.
Pro: The US Military is gaining valuable counter-terrorist intelligence and training for future conflicts.
Con: The longer we stay, the more susceptible Americans back home are to counter American propaganda.

Honestly, a pro will be a very hard one to give for this question coming from me.
I have a MAJOR CON! My daughter, is three months old. Her daddy is over there fighting the war. I worry EVERY single minute of every day that he may not come home. And if he does come home (which he better, or Osama will have to fight me!) will he be the same, will she remember him. What is going to happen to our lives as we once knew them. He has been there THREE times in a matter of four and a half years. I think thats ENOUGH!
I guess the only PRO that I can think of, is this will be his LAST time going over there because he gets out shortly after he gets home.

Pros...A sadistic dictator is gone, Iraqi people are free, a new government has been elected by it's people, infrastructure is better than it was, there are new hospitals, libraries, schools, and more and newer private businesses have sprouted just to name a few.
Cons....American lives were lost to provide the Iraqi people with this choice, Iraqi lives were lost as well!
Does one out wieght the other? It sure does, freedom isn't cheap!

Professional soldiers fighting to keep America safe, verses civilans being attacked by suicide bombers, airplanes, etc. is a big PRO.
A CON is that we have to do it at all. It risks our soldiers lives and they and their families make huge sacrifices for the rest of us.
To all who have or are serving, you are my heros!

Con: Thousands of American troops dying. Pro: good business for the military contractors.
Con: Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dying. Pro: good business for the miltary contractors.
Pro: Saddam Hussein being deposed. Con: years (possibly decades) of civil war in Iraq as a result.
Pro: American being able to claim we deposed Saddam. Con: America looking like global idiots in the process.
Pro: Bush gets to pass new laws. Con: We get to suffer under those laws as the constitution gets stripped away piece by piece.
Pro: Bush gets to claim he's doing the right thing. Con: The American people spend hundreds of billions of dollars.
On the whole, doesn't seem to quite balance.

war in Iraq is far better than war here in U.S.
cons:
it is, after all, still war.
pros:
disproving the notion that we will not bear to sustain casualties.( after running out of Somalia,President Clinton not only dishonored our dead, but showed our enemies that they could strike without insurmountable consequence.)
cons:
it is, after all, still war.
