I understand people who deal with murders and gang bangers and actually get shot at, have a reason. But why are small town cops always thinking they are all powerful. Are they rude from the amount of speeding tickets they have to write?

Small town law enforcement is a typically very low paid job even by law enforcement standards. You get what you pay for. There are guys in those jobs somethimes that think they have really arrived and are somebody now. They are ignorant of their actual situation. Some guys get their start there and move on as soon as possible. Yes they can be unpleasant to deal with. I always hated dealing with these guys when I had to travel to other jurisdictions for investigations, but like I said, you get what you pay for.

I worked in a city of 20,000 and we had confirmed L.A. gang members there, murders, etc.

Maybe because they don't get the training that major city Police Dept's get. In some small towns they hand them a badge and give them on the job training. Most are related in some way to the Sheriff.

I lived in a small town for a number of years where there was the Police Chief and the Deputy and that was it.

They were very nice.

I guess it's the bigger the force, the more each officer feels like an ant compared to a small town that only has a few officers, they feel like they're in more control.

Lets look past the wording of "All" and "Most", you are lumping police into one catagory with the minority being the good cops. Thats not true and you are profiling the police just as you would be up in arms if we did that to you.

I think it's just where you live. To use your line, most, but not all, Officers are the most professional people I know.

I don't know where you live or anything about the department, but if its as you say, I is the department not "Most Small Town Cops"

Did you ever stop to consider that the cops, rude jerks or not, are there to protect and serve. They get very little thanks for the job they do and put up with people like you who complain about them all the time. It's enough to make anyone act rude.

You use the internet to lash out, while most lash out right there with the cop present. I'm not saying it gives the Officer the right to be rude, but I can see where he is coming from. To get respect you have to give respect.

For the most part I treat all with respect on the job and off. I call everyone sir and maam even when they are resiting arrest and I have to wrestle them to the ground. I say things like "Stop resisting sir and it won't hut as much!' However we are humans just like the rest of you, and I have had my days where my buttons were pushed and I was no longer respectful to a few.

Now if that day was the only day this person came into ontact with the police, I'm sure he like you would be saying "Most" of the Officers are rude and jerks.

The job we do is difficult, dangerous, and thankless. Yet we do it anyway. People complain on us not because we did anything wrong, but because they want to get out of the trouble they are in or because if they are going down they want to take the one who caught them down too.
