don't let the water beat down on the fresh tattoo. otherwise it could knock some of the ink out. i always bring a cup into the shower and pour water over it when rinsing. i do this until the tattoo is completely healed.

I dont think there is a correct answer to this, when I was in this situation I just put a plastic covering over it and spent only around 5-7 minutes in the shower, if the tattoo got wet it was minimal and then I patted it dry and applied the ointment I was given.

Have showers not baths (you don't want to soak the fresh tat in dirty bath water)
Don't let the water hit the tattoo directly, instead have it hit the area above the tat so the water runs down onto it. The pressure of the water spray can knock off scabs prematurely and cause a loss of ink.
Don't rub it dry with your towel, just pat it gently and let it air dry. Once again, so that you don't knock off scabs too early.

i was told to take no more than a 10 minute shower, do not let the water "hit" the tat area and for sure no bathing or soaking in water.
Enjoy your new tat!

YES!
Don't scrub the skin, it is still healing and very sensitive. Don't use harsh soaps, something gentle and preferable with no perfumes, dyes that can harm the ink.
Also pat the area dry, don't rub with towel. Make sure to use your A & D oinment creme. Don't use neosporine becuase the chemicals in it are a bit strong and that can damage the color of your tat.
Do not go swimming, do not expose it to the sun while it is still healing.

I dont think so. But if you soak in the tub, you arent supposed to let the tattoo soak in the water. So i had to give up my bubble baths for a while. But a shower is fine

just try not to let the hot water in the shower directly run on your fresh tattoo.
I know its hard especially if its on your back but just keep turning around and facing the water when you can.

Make sure not to get shampoo, conditioner and scented soaps or body washes on it. make sure you use only antibacterial soap- you should wash it in the shower to the point where it feels like normal skin but be very very gentle. also, pat it dry don't rub it. and don't soak in water so no baths, pools or hot tubs until it is healed completely.

I was told not to let the water hit it directly, but that doesn't mean you can't wash it. I was also told to use a 'soft soap.' Don't stay in the shower for a long period of time, and absolutely no baths or jacuzzis. :) And when drying, don't rub it, lightly pad it.

I wouldn't let the water hit it directly...ie. I got my on my side on my lower back and just put my hand like a shade over the top and then let the water drip in. When it was still an open cut, I also tried to make sure not to get shampoo/cond in it by flipping my hair to the front. Wash it with unscented antibacterial soap and don't rub dry with your towel...just pat dry. congrats!
