remove (Laminate) formica and use max bond to mount tiles directly on plywood.

It is very difficult to judge this type of rennovation without a photo. I have formica counters, they have a back splash and a curved edge. If yours are flat you verigate them, start from a center point and go outward. Use tile adhesive and leave spaces between for the grout. (you can buy spacers they work great) also wherever you get your tile they will have computerized instructions. Remember they are very heavy after done. Make sure your surface will handle the weight.
