For what?
reliability
performance
luxury
cars for the money
you cant compare the luxury in a rolls royce to that in a bugatti veyron... they are completely different cars.

Reliability:
Toyota -theyve owned reliability for the last 12yrs in a row
Lexus -suprise, the luxury toyota
Scion-suprise suprise, the budget budget toyota
Honda/Acura -jap cars are the leaders
Suzuki -they have had a great 5 years
(I have to add 6, because i just read this story)
Rolls Royce- this guy who was traveling accros some desert in africa, and he broke an axle on his rolls royce corniche 2, and he called up rolls royce. They loaded up an axle and mechanic crew on a helicopter and flew out and changed this guys axle free of charge... thats quality.
Performance
Brabus-they own 0-60 with the tkr (1.26 sec)
bugatti-1001 hp
Koenigsegg-They have stepped up performance
Hennessey-They have great cars, but shitty service
Rinspeed - toy cars for the race track
Luxury:
Lexus-A car that parks itself!
Maybach-6017lbs of luxury
Rolls Royce/Bentley-hand in hand with luxury
AUDI-Best interiors in the world
Brabus-Only automaker that offers aligator interior.
Cars for the money:
Suzuki-most understated car in america
Brabus-0-60=1.26 sec for $180,000
Lexus-A car that parks itself!
Corvette-supercar performance for a fraction of the price
Mazda-rotory=3 moving parts.
Worst cars in america:
VW-theyve owned the bottom of the line in reliability for the last 7 consecutive years
Mercedes-Welcome to the life of gm... JUNK
Land rover-More recalls then any other car in 2003
Volvo-Ever since ford bought them, the reliability has tanked..
Chevrolet-38% of cars in 2006 had 'worse then average reliability'

Depends on what youre looking at.
You really cant do a brand comparrison though. Each brand has a few good ones and a few that are junk.

The new Ford sedans are great. Very reliable, and better safety ratings than most of their class. The ones theyre replacing were usually pretty bad though. The Focus isnt anything great either.

Chevy Malibu hands down is the safest mid-size sedan (sorry Camry and Accord owners, you die and the Malibu owners dont). However they also make the Ion which is junk (for some reason the G5 and the Cobalt are much better).

VW is going downhill, but theyve had some luck with the Eos.

Toyota while being hyped as the best is begining their suffering. Their quality is going down. Just look at the xA and the Yaris.

Same for Honda (though they did finally figure out how to make an auto tranny that doesnt die when mated to a V6).

Nissan does some good stuff, but they also made the Sentra. It had to be redesigned before it started to actually fail the crash testing, instead of just coming in at the very bottom.

BMW and Mercedes are usually near the middle to bottom for reliability, but safety is usually good (though they tend to be easy to steal).

Look at Hyundai-great crash test ratings, good price, good warranty, climbing the reliability ratings chart every year. They still make some junk, but each time they redesign something it gets much better.

You need to look at individual models, not brands. Brand loyalty is what is keeping bad cars (like the last gen Sentra) selling when the manufacturers knows theyre crap.

1. TOYOTA

2. TOYOTA

3. TOYOTA

4. TOYOTA

5. TOYOTA

This is the accurate list. Toyota is the greatest car maker on earth, and it is the only vehicle that is worth more than you will pay for it.

Maintenance free. Quiet. Efficient. Dignified. Safe. Cool.

Let me explain, please. Toyota's are engineered by the most intelligent young designers, using programs that are now nearly perfect. The workers are not slackers, but motivated, healthy and well paid servants to the consumer.

I have driven all major brands, and can attest that when I landed on Toyota, I knew I'd never own another brand.

When I take my little gem in for the oil change...it is welcomed into a spotless, modern facility...a very competent world of professionals, who respect my property and time.

Ask any owner. They truly ROCK!

If Toyota was just a little more brilliant, they would let customers boast, RAW, UNEDITED...instead of paying those ad agencies.

FACT: IF EVERY PRODUCT ON EARTH WERE AS WONDERFUL AS TOYOTA VEHICLES, THIS EARTH WOULD BE BETTER THAN ANY HEAVEN.

Summary: If God drives, He owns a Transparent 2008 Camry with Blaupunkt woofers and is seen traversing His favorite spot: Kaleidoscope Universe...his eternal chick mate at hand...while listening LOUD...to "Ridin' With The King" (Eric Clapton and B. B. King)

just my honest opinion...you asked for it...you got it. Badda-BING!

Toyota
Toyota
Toyota
Honda
Toyota
my experience:

1st car: Ford Mustang - got rid of it at 43K miles because it stayed broken

2nd car: Chevy Blazer - engine gone at 80K

3rd car: Ford Ranger - electrical system shot at 17K - replaced

4th car: Ford Ranger - electrical system shot at 97K

5th car: Toyota Corolla - 285K and still runs great with original engine and transmission

Automobile reliability for ALL brands has improved dramatically in recent years. The worst car today (except for Hummers) is better than the best car 20 years ago.

Most importantly regardless of brand:

Buy used.
Pay cash.
