The newest studies show (as of last month) that exercise actually increases the appetite in the beginning. So diet is really the only way, which opposes almost all the health experts.
It's a mind thing. I can tell you how I lost 30 lbs in a month and I'm sure it isn't healthy.
I quit eating for an entire day. Not a thing... just diet pop and water.
The next day, I only ate one meal. I thought of what I was going to eat for about 4 hours so it was lunch. I ate what I wanted to eat but I didn't gorge myself. IOW, I decided what would be a good feeling meal in advance and only ordered what I decided.
I didn't eat anymore that day. For the rest of the month I ate one meal a day, usually a big one. And it included desert and pop, milk, etc.
It really wasn't that hard. And I slipped up a few times but only when I ate 2 meals... never 3 and never ever snacks.
I've never been able to lose weight the conventional way. However, I know for a fact that I can lose weight this way and it isn't a diet but a behavior.
I'll give you some more advice... if you are going to listen to an "expert" listen to one that has been overweight. Hardly any has ever been fat and genetically they would never be 10 or 20 lbs overweight regardless if they ate anything they wanted.

Exercise is definitely an important part of the equation, but diet plays a role as well. Many ppl have had success with a low carb diet or a diabetic type diet. That means eating foods which are low on the glycemic index -which is a measure of how quickly the body turns those carbs into glucose (blood sugar).
Also, skipping meals, esp. breakfast, is no good because your body automatically slows the metabolism and stores fat when you skip a meal.
You can safely lose about two lbs/week, so look at approx 20 weeks to lose 40 lbs.
Good luck!

I also reached my all time high weight of 225 pounds. I finally joined Weight Watchers in January and as of last thursday, I have lost 16 pounds. I have also started going to the gym again and have been working out for 3 weeks now.
Watch what you eat and count your calories, that is the only way to lose weight in my opinion. It isn't magic, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people overweight.
Good Luck!

I went on the two week initiation period and almost immediately lost 20 lbs but I was much heavier than you when I started. Also, the diet assistant, Metabolife helped give me a jump another time that I started a new diet. In the end, the most consistent way that I have lost weight, and kept it off is by using saucers. I have found that using the smaller plates instead of dinner plates has made me eat less without realizing it. Hope some of these ideas help. Good luck.

Try a cleansing diet! I did and lost 11 pounds and 21 inches in only 9 days. I was very happy with the results and continued on the program and lost 29 pounds in 5 weeks. This is the fastest I have ever lost with other diets like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Slimfast etc…. Cleansing works by removing impurities from your body. You get impurities from your food (pesticides, preservatives, food additives, colorings) water, chemicals, pollution, medications, alcohol, hormones that the animals you eat were fed etc….YUCK! The impurites get coated with fat and remain in your body. To remove the fat, you have to remove the impurites. This system worked for me, maybe it can work for you too. You can check out the website or call this toll free number 1-877-587-4647 for more info. The program is not cheap, but it is worth every penny since it works and keeps you motivated. Good luck! I used to weigh 257 lbs and before I got pregnant I was down to 170lbs. I lost it by working out and cutting out my sodas. I kept it off until I got preg. I had a baby in Nov and I am now about 12lbs away from where I was before baby, so I already lost about 20lbs. The best way is to eat lots of veggi's and chicken or fish. Try to stay away from fatty foods and esp fried foods. I never found a "diet" that worked for me besides just cutting back and staying active, but if you are looking for a stuctured diet try weight watchers. You can still eat what you like, just in small portions. Check out www.weightwatchers.com My advice is to work out and just eat less and more healthy plus drink lots of water

only consume about 1200 calories a day. 45-60 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, weight train 2 to 3 times a week. Slowly build up to this. To fight cravings drink water, read, get out of the house! Write your goals down, this helped me so much! Reward yourself with clothes, a manicure, a massage, anything but food! Have one "porky pig" meal a week say sunday brunch with friends or saturday night out, but go right back to your diet the next meal.
Cravings subside after the first two bites so don't deprive yourself from anything just have a bite or two then throw it away.
low-cal frit popsicles helped with any sweet cravings I have.
Good Luck!

first, you really should get out of mind about losing 40 lbs quick, that's not healthy. i started by walking, everywhere. i then started eating a healthy breakfast i get the box of oatmeal with the premeasured packs you just stick in the microwave.(my favorite is maple flavored i add blueberries) in a month i had lost 3inches off my waist. and 8lbs. for snacks, i eat fresh fruit like grapes, or apple slices. i have a bad leg,so it's difficult to run,so i walk. eat high carbs, high fiber, and i can bet you'll lose the weight.. if you drink beer, you need to cut back or in my case stop all together
drink green tea and lots of water
good luck
