Had to buy some new leaders. The ones I bought are black in colour, the ones I always used before are silver or gray. Is black better or does it matter?

Depends on the color of the water and the depth. Near the surface and in clear water, the lighter or transparent colors are better, down deeper the darker ones will be less visible.

On the surface (like in fly fishing) a black leader will leave more of a shadow than a clear or light-colored leader, but down deep the color matters less.

Once I was bottom fishing in the ocean (about 60-80 feet deep), and a guy I was with was using white braided line tied directly to his jig. He used a black felt-tip pen and colored the last 3 feet or so of his line black, and he got as many fish as the rest of us who were using monofilament.

The flash of the silver ones may attract fish, but at times it may also scare them. I use mostly black in lighter conditions sonce the fish can already see my lure and i use silver ones in dark, deep murkey water for an extra flash.
But overall it really doesn't matter what leaders you buy as long as they hold fish.

What are you fishing for? If using a leader, I personally prefer to use clear fluorocarbon bought in small spools.

Have you considered braided line? I've been using power-pro for several years and it doesn't require a leader.

Depends, like everything. I prefer leaders that are close to the color of water I'm fishing in. I try to keep several colors available. I also make some of my own using heavier line, or stainless, braided wire.
