I want to get some on my way home tonight but won't be hungry right away, was thinking maybe I could just keep it warm in the oven for a while. I know those tubs are microwave friendly but my microwave is broken...

Anyone know why you can nuke them but not put them in the oven? Just curious.

Just to explain my line of thinking a little better, I thought that ready meals which are oven friendly come in plasticy-cardboard with a layer of plastic over it (which you leave on, just poking holes in) and so i thought that it being plastic may not necessarily mean that it could not withstand low heat in an oven.

Plastic, no. While they can withstand lower over temperatures (such that you might use to keep warm), they aren't designed to withstand cooking temps.

Best to dump into a glass, metal, or ceramic pan before putting in the oven.

Chinese Takeaway Containers

Sorry, but the container will not last in the oven. Plastic melts at most temps. If it does not melt you will get plastic residue and odor on your food and make it taste horrible. Use an oven safe plate, dish or glass cookware.

I had the same problem a few years ago, only I did not own a microwave at the time. I set a few dishes aside for warming foods in the oven. Made it easier to grab each time I needed it rather than rummaging around through my cookware when I needed it and was hungry.

Good Luck! :)

Chinese Takeaway Boxes

You can nuke them because the temperature of the food is reached quickly and that heats the container.
In an oven, the temperature is set and the container heats up before the food does. the plastic reaches melting point before cooking or re-heating occurs!
Hope that makes sense!!!

No it will melt and the reason they dont melt in the microwave is because it uses just that...microwaves and the oven uses heat

No. You have to put the food into an overproof dish, cover it with foil so it doesn't dry out.

no, they are not for oven use-they would melt and leach plastic residues into your food.

No, you can not. The heat will cause them to melt.
