Feather duster - no chance fly spray or the vacuum cleaner whichever comes to hand first.. no spiders in my house,

I have cats, and i treat my carpets once a year for fleas.. the spray lasts for 12 months, the spiders can smell it and they never come into your house, also kills flies wasps and all other unwanted insects, use in September before the big ones start to arrive and you will have no problem at all. That way you wont have to kill them because they just wont come in.

I left mine and used it as a show and tell for my students for the few days that the babies were still there.
I could no more have destroyed it than I could have taken a gun to my own children.
Stupid or not, I always apologise to what ever spider might be listening when I have to brush away any dust encrusted ones.
Living in the Middle East which is an ant haven, I am more than happy to let the spiders weave their magic and do the dirty deed of killing the ants for me!

well, you really don't *have* to. Just the majority of people tend to not enjoy a spider infested house. Ick. Crawling on you in your sleep and all over your kitchen and bathroom. No thank you!
You don't have to kill the spider. You can catch it and put it outside your home and it will build a new web. Plus, spiders are good to have around to keep out the other nasty bugs! Just make sure they are non-poisonous spiders that you chose to keep around!

You don't have to but spider bites aren't all that fun either. Now you could get a cup and a piece of paper and scoop them into the cup and put the cup in the garden.
Did you ever hear about people sleeping with their mouths open and a spider crawls in and your reflex action causes you to swallow them. And that you eat about 20 spiders a year that way.
Hope this helps.

I cannot believe the answers so far!!! spider killers!!
If the spiders are nested and babies are there, leave it be.
I only sweep down the ones that are dust infested that the spider has left already. Other than that, spiders are a blessing in the home and help clean out those other pesky bugs. Good for you!!!!!

Sorry I know it maybe bad but I hate spiders!! I know they do great things in the world and help to keep pest populations down but once you have been bitten by a Tarantula when I was 16. Man I am scared to death of them now!!

I worked at a pet store and we got millet sprays in, I was putting them away and all the sudden I felt a horrible pain!! There was a wild spider in the bottom of the box!! Lucky I was taken to the hospital and I was okay but still I am scared to death of them now!! even small ones!!

LOL! I'm very happy to know that I am not the only one who feels that way! I have a spider policy in my home. So long as it's web isn't where I have to walk through it, and so long as it does it's job as far as killing flies and other pest insects it's allowed to stay. The one exception to that is White Tails because they love to get inside of clothing and then bite. I often joke to people that I am going to rename my place Cob Webb Manor!

I couldn't imagine dusting away a web. Where would it fall? Why would I let the spiders live? Raid or the vacuum cleaner take care of spiders and webs in this house!

If you can, capture the spiders and put them outside. I've never had a batch of babies to chase after tho' :-D

I've always tried to let spiders have a second chance. It feels like the right thing to do ... esp. after reading "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick.

I can't say that I've ever feather dusted a spider's home away. I've burned them, used a broom, stomped them, done numerous other things, but I've never uesd a feather duster. I do'nt really like spiders.
