what kinds of activities do you do?

For me it's more of a therapy thing, in fact up till recently, I was working for a Brat Camp type of place that helped at risk teens get back on track with their families.

Even without the kids, though, I find myself drawn to the outdoors for comfort. And oddly, the further I get from comfortable things? The more relaxed I get. I have a very minimal gear list, and I rough it.

What I look forward to when I'm camping:

Solitude, or small groups, meeting the occasional stranger
Exercise from hiking, doing things "the hard way"
Getting away from the city
Taking off the watch and adopting nature's schedule
Reading, watching wildlife, meditating
Stinking and being okay with it
Quiet
Healthy food
Reminding myself what is important and what I really need.

LAYING IN MY HAMMOCK. I consider this an activity. omg, if you don't have a hammock that rolls up in a ball and fits in your hand and ties between two tress....get one. You will see what I mean.

It is interesting that when you spend anytime away from what you are used to, alone, without your typical distractions, your little demons start to bubble up. Your deepest sadnesses and the like. You can deal with them well in the wild...get some perspective, meditate, make a plan, get your feelings out without worrying who will hear or care.

You do have to be prepared and safe when you go out there but my suggestion is to strip it down and let the wilderness change you instead of bringing your city life out there with you.

Some things that I enjoy in the woods aside from that?

Small paperback books
Journalling
Frisbees are great, esp those floppy ones that pack well
Playing cards go a long way in the rain, UNO and Skipbo too.
Watching nature, looking for new plants, etc.
Small music instruments. You can make a flute from bamboo and hemp with a good knife. And harmonicas, guitars, etc. And you can sing...
Nothing like a campfire. Just let it soothe you without trying to make it perfect.
Playing in the creeks and waterholes you find.

I agree with a lot of what Music.... said above.

It's a testament to the power of nature that. Because in society, I would probably not agree with this person on anything at all, us being very opposite types.

Nature can be enjoyed in the smallest things. It makes you realize how small you are, but also it's wonder. Don't expect a lot and plan quiet time, like a hike in the woods. Nothing beats a nice nap next to a small stream.

the main reason i go camping is to play outside for days without going home... plus sleeping outside is more fun and cheap (like free)...
i mainly go hiking.... some caving/camping weekends too..
campfire fun at night with great cooking and food.. beer (of course).. and some harmonica hymns as well...
photography is also standard... whether it's landscapes from atop the mountain we scaled, the passage we just sqeezed thru, the waters we just paddled, self portraits or flowers...
journaling is important to me too.. i like to record the things we see, do and what i felt.. for me, being out of the city in nature is for my sanity.. getting back to the Earth...
it's just a different kind of living...

I always stay in a camp ground that has a pool. The one we usually go to has a basketball court, arcade, pool and mini golf. We do all of these plus we bring our bikes along for bike rides and we also do hiking. And just sitting around the camp fire is fun.

drink, throw a football or baseball, maybe kick a soccer ball around. if your in an area that has it go hiking, cook food over the fire like hot dogs and smores. play some guitar. different camp parks offer different things to like swimming and stuff.

We canoe/kayak, hike, bike ride, sit by a fire, toast marshmallow, grill food, play ball, play cards and relax. The last camp site we went to a lot of people had four wheelers(atv) and they looked like so much fun!!!

It depends. I go camping in an area with a beach, walk along the shore. Sleep, read, collect shells, talk to friends . . . .

If I go backpacking I hike in the woods with friends, eat, sleep, talk, read . . .listen to the sounds of silence in the evening . . .

I enjoy counting critters in caves . This activity is not recommended For those that are claustrophobic - afraid of the dark - don't have mud in there blood - don' have 4 people in there group - don't have the proper gear- ECT ... Please don't take your kids caving. get with your local grotto first
