Is she taking Benadryl or another sort of antihistamine? If she is truly covered all over her body, she should go back to the doc. She may need steroids for a couple days.
Did she try a new soap? Eat something unusual or shell fish, peanuts, anything different? Is she wearing something new or something washed in a new detergent? Get a new pet? Are her face and lips affected?

I dont' want to worry you but......
I had a bite when I was walking my dog in the woods. It was a bite from a deer tick and it developed into Lyme Disease....red itchy lumps that felt a bit like bruises. Very bad illness that needs very strong antibiotics. If the problem persists it would probably be worth investing in the services of a skin specialist even if you have to go private, because this is one thing you don't allow to develop.

The incidence of bed bugs is on the up.Check you bedding to be on the safe side. Piriton is a good antihistamine.
Also have a quick think about washing powder, conditioner, shower gel etc. in case she has changed anything recently.
Shell fish is another common cause of allergies.

Sounds like hives to me! It's a common allergic reaction. It'll be really itchy, but it'll go away. She might want to get her allergies tested.

I don't know but if your girlfriend starts to feel unwell get back to the doctors. If she is feeling fine should clear up as quick as it came.
