Age 2

Most female dogs "go into heat" about every 6 or 7 months starting sometime before their first year of age. It is best to allow the Lab to reach full growth before breeding. Once it's done growing, you can start breeding.

The reason you wait is because breeding can put undue stress on the dog while its maturing.

Good luck!

You have to wait til they are 2 years old to breed them. If you breed before that, you risk a mother who is too young trying to care for a litter that she isn't capable of or prepared to do. If they are too young they tend to get upset easily when babies cry.
Plus they are still growing to that point, and it gives you a good chance to see how the ***** is going to turn out and whether it's going to be worth breeding her.
And you need that time to get the health testing done.. Hips especially for your Labrador.

2 is the minimum. Before you breed you should OFA the hips and make sure your dog has good hips. You cannot OFA a dog until they are 2.

If...IF you breed make sure you do it right, there are too many people that breed that think their dog is perfect and they have genetic weaknesses. Research and do it right or do not do it at all.

It is alot of work!

If you have to ask that question on Yahoo then you obviously should not be breeding your dog in the first place. Spay your dog before you put her pups in the shelter. Unless you know the genetic history of the parents and grandparents on both sides you should not be breeding. there are already enough homeless animals in this world why would you want to add to that possibly.

Most breeders wait until the dog is about 2 and then only breed it once every two years to allow her body rest before giving birth again.

Two years old is best, but you can breed a female at her second heat, or heat after that. Try not to breed on the first heat because she is still too much of a puppy.

As with any dog breed, it's best to wait until the second or third heat.
It's nice to see that you're taking the time to research and ask questions before allowing your dog to get pregnant! :-)

Its usually around the age of two yrs but keep in mind unless your selling registered pups and are bettering the breed it probally isnt wise to do it, there are so many labs in our shelter and its so so sad.
we get more labs and lab crosses then any other breed (in the shelter)
