1. Start early, when a child's lifetime values are developing (4-10 yo)
2. Connect the children directly with the environment, i.e. don't draw pictures, don't keep animals in the classroom ... get outside and interact with the environment.
3. Make our schools a healthy environment. Get rid of the soda pop, candy and junk food machines in schools.
4. Start a victory garden. Show the kids that our environment provides us with our food and many other useful products such as textiles.
5. Show them other examples of habitat destruction due to human influence ... i.e. deforestation, DDT, mercury, acid rain.
6. Teach the concept of Deep Ecosocial Egalitarianism; every living thing from a virus to an ecosystem is part of a bigger whole and must be afforded equal respect. We hairless apes have no more right to be here than any other life form. Life was NOT created for us to consume.

Do you mean the next generation as in the under 30 crowd nowadays? Because if so we already know, it's those lazy bums of the old generation that aren't doing squat. We've had this stuff drilled in for years. Give us the options and we take them, from recycling to better fuels to better appliances.

That said, if you mean the generation being born now, an easy way is to crank out Captain Planet again. GO PLANET!

I think by law everyone should have to recycle ALL plastics, paper products, glass, metal and compost. People should be given incentive to be more environmentally friendly. Incandescent light bulbs should be banned and houses, streets and businesses should be lite withe fluorescent bulbs. Cars should be made to run on Bio-diesel. Governments and Big Business have to go green. We as the people of this planet should demand it. It's time we take a stand to preserve our world improve it and protect it for our children.

Well, you can start by debunking the likes of Al Gore. His exaggerations and untruths will discredit legitimate environmental concerns.
