Well a "fling" usually doesn't last that long, seeing as though it's just a fling. I guess it really depends on the people who are in it.

Define "fling"..
Are you married or single during this "fling" ?
Flings are not acceptable when married...
Do you mean a casual intimate affair that
has no chance of becoming a serious event ?
Don't waste more than a few months on such affairs.

I had a 3-4 year fling. We knew it'd never go anywhere, but didn't have anyone else in the pipes and were good friends.

I'd say a summer, then you're in a relationship in my opinion. On the other hand if you both know it is temporary, and will have to end then I'd say less then a year is a fling.

A fling cna go on indefinitely. When it's over though, it has to be over. That's why it's a fling and not a relationship.

If you are both single, you can decide how long it will last. If you are just using him for sex, just hold onto him until someone better comes along. Then you can give 'em the boot.

It depends on what you both want...if you want nothing more then getting it every now and then....for 10 years and it's not hurting the two of you...then go with the flow...but when it becomes a problem for one...like if he starts having feelings for you and they are not returned....then it's time to book. (that means=leave)
