I'm not a Catholic and I've read the Bible back to front and front to back; doesn't say a THING about confessing sins to a priest.

Where in the Bible does it say that we can't do or believe anything except what is in the Bible?? That idea is a modern, unbiblical tradition of men. Nevertheless, the Bible clearly describes Jesus pouring out the Holy Spirit upon the first priests of His Church, and empowering them to forgive sins. He would not have given them such a power unless He intended them to use it. However He did not empower them to read minds. Therefore obviously if priests are to exercise the God-given ministry to forgive sins in God's name, the priest must be made aware of those sins by means of confession.

Its not in the Bible. It is a practice developed to make the act of confession and contrition more concrete and real to the laity. The bible tells us to confess our sins to God, of course, and that Christ took on the sin of the world, and the practice of confessing to a priest is symbolic of both these things. Its not something you "must do", but it sure holds value to millions of the faithful. For those that struggle with faith, having a flesh and blood confessor can make all the difference in the world.

Many of us who think we are confessing straight to God and being better that way are deceiving ourselves, because we never repent, and wouldn't dream of telling a person our sins or allowing ourselves to be held accountable.

Ignorant protestant. You know the word, but she defies it. Because you do not go to look a house and establish a seita, equal its.

What such, if you to appeal the Martinho Lutero, the founder of its seita, so that he saves you? Ah, it cannot, is died á more than 400 years. Then, you do not have alternative, senão, to appeal á Jesus Christ, Son of God, and Founder of the true Church, the Catholic.

Here it is its ticket, ignorant: (Epistle of Is Tiago 5, 16): “You confess your sins ones to the others, and pray ones for the others to be cured. The conjunct of just has great effectiveness”.

(John 20,23) “To those to who to pardon the sins, to them will be pardoned; to those to who to hold back them, will be to them restrained”.

The Priest is the ungido one of the Bishop, that is in turn, the successor of the apóstolos. If note that Jesus if relates to the apóstolos ones when clearly said these words. It did not say the multitudes, in this ticket.

Nowhere. They will try to sneak James in there ("confess your sins to one another") but that (as usual) is taking it out of context. Otherwise, sign me up for next time a priest has to confess his sins to me.

There is only one God and only one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus who died for all... (1 Tim. 2)

As for Father K, too bad for him that the majority of catholic priests stopped being Christ's disciples a long time ago.

It does not- 1 Timothy 2:5 says- "There is one mediator between God and us, and that is Christ Jesus". We do not need to go to a priest because Christ is our High Priest as stated many times in Hebrews.

It doesn't.. Under the old testiment, if you were under the law, you must go to the priest to confess, but under the new covenant the veil was ripped from top to bottom and you take your sins directly to God. With the Roman priesthood, it is a method of controlling the people the same way the Babylonian priesthood did.

JOHN 20
21
(Jesus) said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
22
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the holy Spirit.
23
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."

JAMES 5
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

You can confess your sins to the priest, your friend or straight to God in prayer. Whichever way you feel comfortable with.

**after reading the answers from others,.. it amuses me, how many ridicule the Catholic faith and yet they call themselves Christians,... it saddens me that many would uphold their beliefs higher/mightier than others when in fact, all are the same. Must we be divided just because we have different views? Couldn't we just respect each other's beliefs? It seems to me that many claim to be part of the perfect religion, but then no religion is perfect. Each religion is working/developing towards perfection following into the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

As long as i believe in Christ, I am fine. You may ridicule my religion, the Roman Catholic Church as much as you want. What good will it do you? As Jesus said, who is without no sin, may cast the first stone...

He meant to confess them to anyone who is holy. And the general supposition is, or was, who's holier than a priest?

If you prefer, confess them to your science teacher. But be tactful. And above all, don't blurt them out. Exercises a little decorum.

Jesus preached decorum.
