Its not safe to remove them yourself. Insurance usually does cover their removal. I have to go Friday & have some froze off. My friend let an allergy doc cut hers out & it left a huge nasty looking scar. So be sure your let a skin doc do it.

Insurance will usually only cover this if it is considered life-threatening, for example if the doctor looking at it believes it could be cancerous. I've tried to take moles off before, but only at certain times does it work, plus I've heard that it might not be good for you. I think if you can afford it at all you should get it done, not just for looks, but this way it can't become cancerous later on.

I had one removed from my hand a few weeks ago in my dermatologist office and my insurance covered it (other than the co-pay). He didn't think it was cancer (it wasn't) but did the biopsy. I think he did it mostly b/c he knew I was unhappy w/ how it looked. If they "freeze" it off for cosmetic reasons, I'm not sure the insurance would cover it. He cut mine out and placed 2 stitches there. I think it depends on where the mole is and how big it is when going this route. Mine was a blue nevus on my right hand and I didn't like the appearance. For me, a tiny scar (if any) is better than the mole itself and better than paying for cosmetic surgery.

Yes insurance cover this and they do not freeze a mole off they usually cut it off and then send it to the lab to be sure it isn't skin cancer.

if it is raised enough, you can tie a piece of dental floss tightly around it. if it isn't raised enough, then compound W works great. but it does take several weeks.
