I was supposed to have gotten my birth certificate in the mail today, but it didn't come today. Now all I have is a photocopy of one, an expired passport, my drivers license, and random ID's i.e.school ID, credit cards etc. Is that enough to get me into and back from Canada? Thanks

Should be no problem to get into Canada, at most you will get a bit of hassle, but probably not, depends on other circumstances of your visit.

Coming back into the U.S. you will probably get hassled a bit and told to renew your passport, etc, but other than that, you will get in. Do take the expired passport with you.

I once got back into the U.S. (about two years ago) with absolutely no I.D. ... I had forgotten my wallet ... but the truck i was driving was in my name and I had a bunch of mail and stuff to try and prove who I was ... I got hassled big time and scolded, but got in. I don't recommend it, but just wanted you to know you should be able to get back in!

Do take the photocopy of your birth certificate and any proof you have that you sent away for it.

Honestly, a photocopy will be laughed at. Think about this from a Border Guard's perspective: that photocopy could have been obtained ANYWHERE. The reason an original is used is because there are many security features so fraud is not an issue. None of those are on a photocopy.

I would call Border Services and ask. You do not want to get to the border and be denied because someone on Yahoo answers said it "should be" okay.

your expired passport may work getting into Canada. It IS proof that you were (at one point) an American Citizen. Returning to the U.S., again your passport proves citizenship.

Although, to be on the safe side, call and make sure you can get back.

Which Toronto are you in that's no longer already in Canada? Ohio? Kansas? South Dakota? Indiana? New South Wales, AU? after all, from Toronto in any state of the country, head north, you ought to get right here ultimately. in case you hit between the great Lakes, go around it. no longer relatively undemanding from between the Torontos on different continents.

Speaking as a Canadian, to get into Canada....you probably will not have a problem. Getting back into the US, the US border security is a little more strict and you might have some issues.
