The wheelchair part does not present any big problems. Most Airlines, with previous request from you as client, will provide wheelchair at the airport, in fact they would even have it waiting for you right at the entrance of the airport, to take the person & his companion all the way to the air cabin, bypassing all stairs. Common sense rather than obligation would mean that you this person should be checked by a his doctors beforehand, to make sure it's save for him to travel.
Then you can either take his own chair (for whcih I think you might have to pay a sum, check on that ) all the way to India, or have someone to take both of you as far as the airport, then change to take the provided wheelchair.
Donf't forget to request the whellchair to be waiting at the other end as well, & for the return trip.

Hi,
Get in touch with the Airline company, Maybe air India or British airways, and ask them the position and the facilities they have for disabled persons, I feel sure they may be able to assist you, also if staying in a hotel best check with them also if they have disabled facilities. good luck.

When making your reservations let the company know exactly what will be needed - like a wheelchair. It will not be the first time they have had a disabled person on board and they are fully geared to cope. You may be asked to have a note from their doctor saying they are fit to fly.
