It's much more than just being tired all the time. I have two friends who are diagnosed with CFS and they are very sick people; one of them had to retire.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also sometimes called immune dysfunction syndrome or myalgic encephalomyelitis (in Europe), is not a new disorder. In the 19th century the term neurasthenia, or nervous exhaustion, was applied to symptoms resembling CFS. In the 1930s through the 1950s outbreaks of disease marked by prolonged fatigue were reported in the United States and many other countries. Beginning in the early to mid-1980s interest in chronic fatigue syndrome was revived by reports in America and other countries of various outbreaks of long-term debilitating fatigue.

Fatigue that lasts for more than six months, impairs normal activities, and has no identifiable medical or psychological problems to account for it is referred to as unexplained chronic fatigue. These symptoms can be further categorized as follows:

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). A number of criteria must be met in order for a patient's symptoms to be described as CFS. [For a list see Box Criteria for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome]. It should be noted that six million patient visits are made each year because of fatigue, although only a very small percentage of these can be attributed to actual chronic fatigue syndrome

Idiopathic chronic fatigue. If the patient's symptoms do not meet the criteria for CFS, then the condition is referred to as idiopathic chronic fatigue. (Idiopathic simply means that the cause is not known.)

It is a syndrome invented by the medical profession to entice you to take another drug or two. (circa 1979)

It is not real.

Generations ago, when survival and mutual support were paramount forces in daily life, there was no such thing.

Get busy. Focus on goals. Save up. Help others.

When you fill the vacuum of ennui, self-absorption and "woe-is-me" you will snap out of this gloomy and frail state.

If you instead fall into the pharmaceutical trap, you'll become a life-long Certified Loser.

This is true of almost all ailments. I've lived a very long life, and have watched many friends and family members wither and die. It is mainly due to defeat of their pilot light. Believe me, this is LITERALLY TRUE. I've witnessed it...over and over.

Now...be strong. Be wise. Take the reins of your own sacred Will, and PULL HARD!

You'll feel great, as the wind whips your hair...and as you turn around, and you'll see Chronic Fatigueexists, alright...back there in the dust.
