You only have to tell about your sexual experiences if you are repenting about them. (i.e. sex outside of marriage, if you raped someone.) You don't have to go into detail either!

Like others have said, it is part of the repentance process. Some things - such as immorality - need to be discussed with the bishop (which is NOT in detail) because that is basically the way the Lord has set it up.
Repentance is one of the first principles of the gospel and is essential to our temporal and eternal happiness. It is much more than just acknowledging wrongdoings. It is a change of mind and heart that gives us a fresh view about God, about ourselves, and about the world. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness. It is motivated by love for God and the sincere desire to obey His commandments.

Why do people go to confession in the Catholic church and tell them about their desires and deeds? I think you could get some varying answers on this.
On some occassions it is not required, but if you have any doubts about the gravity of your sin, then you would likely want to talk to someone that represents the Lord. The act of confession is a humbling and alerting experience. You not only bring yourselfs to the depth of humility, which is often required to completely repent of our sins as Christ has required, but you receive support and consolation from someone who cares and will help you in any way they can to achieve your goals in faith. When it comes down to it, it's all personal and about strengthening your relationship with God. If a representative of God can help, then that's awesome.

They don't. They do confess sins to a Bishop as part of the repentance process. There is not detail of any sort shared. Its a process of repentance.

I guess it would be for the same reason that Catholics are supposed to confess and Evangelicals talk about "accountability"--because ministers love juicy gossip! :-D
Seriously, it's probably done at least partially to help young people do what's right and help them absolve their "sin" if they haven't.
