Well, you must remember that creationists are mostly contained to the US, and even there they are a minority (really loud though). They're almost nonexistent in Europe.

When I first encountered them on this site I was both shocked, elated, and very worried about their mental state.

There's a difference between being taught in church that creationism is real and being taught in school that evolution is real.

It does worry me that so many people believe that creationism is the true, factual story of how we got here because there is so much verifiable evidence otherwise. They forget (or don't care) that the bible was written by men a long time before we knew anything about the science of archeology or anthropology. As far as the knew at the time, no one would ever know more than they did. We often fall into that trap ourselves.

Regardless what we find in the bible, it is not a historical record of what happened on this earth. We know through science that the big bang and evolution is a much more viable history of our earth and how we got here.

My mom, a very devout Catholic, believes in the big bang but that God was the catalyst and he was guiding the process. He also has mapped out evolution and guided that process also.

It's certainly hard to believe that anybody can believe in something so absurd and ridiculous as Adam and Eve or creationism in general, especially with all the countless gaping holes in the story (god creates plants and animals before man but later it says he created man before plants and animals - huh? And why did god mark Cain's face so people would see him as a murderer if he was Adam and Eve's kid and there weren't other people, and where did his wife come from?)...

Fortunately evolution is the reality, it's a biological fact and our understanding of it has made huge benefits to medicine and our understanding of life. Even most christians realize it's true. It is "an elegant and powerful explanatory force" as the bishop of Oxford put it, and even the Vatican has conceded that it's definite phenomenon....

It's mostly just the bizarrely dysfunctional American christians and their inexplicable acceptance of the completely absurd that still believe in creationism as literal. In a country where 44% believe Jesus will return in the next 50 years, people here are just incredibly delusional.

Creationists are in direct denial of history, archeology, geology, astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology, and reality itself. This sheer degree of denial puts a lot of stress on the mind, but that's why there are so many christian apologist sites and books out there. By reading only the distorted fallacies in those books and ignoring the real evidence they can feel better about being completely wrong. =P

If you could seriously ( I do means seriously) research how a dinosaur bone is dated, you would have great trouble trusting anything you read in a text book again, especially about evolution. The whole foundation of evolution rest precariously on the assumed geologic column(c.1830) and the dates presupposed to the layers. This is not science, but foolishness. We should be thankful than not all scientist believe this nonsense.

Yes, it worries me. I try to point out to them that the Bible tells us that God uses evolution as part of the creation process:

"And God said, 'Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures ... Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind.'" -- Genesis 1.20, 24

Sadly, most people who believe in creationism have been so firmly indoctrinated that it's difficult, if not impossible, to change their minds. You have a choice: fight the battle every time it's mentioned, or keep your mouth shut and feel sorry for them.

Yes. If you're a rational person you have every right to judge them for being taught fairy tales and remaining willfully ignorant of reality even as adults.

Yes, it worries me.

Whereas evolution at least seems plausible, especially since we see micro-evolution every day, it's okay to accept evolution. However, man from dirt, woman cloned from a rib, all through God's holy magic? THAT is NOT okay to believe in.

i tend to feel sorry for for the creationists, living in such a small bubble surrounded by fear. like yourself, i had a surprise when i got here. i found out that some of these same people don't believe in gravity of all things!!!!!!! its sad that today people are still living in the dark ages where they have to obey the church with no proof, or suffer the consequences of burning in hell

why should I care? honestly, if they think that the world was created in a magical poof then so what? it has no bearing whatsoever in my life. do you lie awake at night feeling worried or angry to know that there are people in this world who don't agree with you? get over yourself

It's one thing if they want to believe in Adam and Eve. That's personal. If they want to ignore science, that's their choice. If they want to try to alter science to fit their beliefs, they will receive my scorn for their deceit. I will not hesitate to point out each lie they tell in their futile attempt to distort reality.
