Press Start and then run and paste this there.
c://Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
the option should also be in your accessories - > System Tools folder on your programs list.
Take the system restore point immediately before your problem started, there are potential problems but you can usually restore back if there is a big problem.
This all assumes you are on XP rather than Vista. With Vista just boot from the supplied CD and select System restore from the install menu.
Good Luck

Have used it many times with windows xp without any problems. The only thing not mentioned above is that it does use up some space on you hard drive, so I would suggest that when you have your system working as you want it, that you go into the options part of disc clean up where you can delete all except the latest restore point.

System restore is completey safe unless you have a virus. The virus you were trying to get rid of may come back and you'll be in bigger trouble. System Restore is sometimes helpful with installations problems. It is completely reversible if you don't like it. Just be prepare to have the same settings from the date you are restoring from. GOOD LUCK!

Go to the Start Menu, go up to Accessories, then SYSTEM TOOLS, drop down to SYSTEM RESTORE and click. It will provide you with a calender showing the last good running (Restore) point, click on that date and you are good to go. Nothing bad about it.

I might also note that files that you've created recently will not be lost, such as word files, etc.
