I'm looking for somewhere warm, sunny and not full of English bars and english food. I want a proper holiday where I can relax and escape the English winter.

I think it depends on (a) your budget (long haul may be quite a bit more costly than Europe), (b) how warm/sunny you want it to be, and (c) what you want to do to relax...

I've been to Penang (Malaysia), Singapore, and Thailand in February (some years ago now, but I doubt they're overrun with English bars and English food even now).

I've also been to southern California in Feb/March - Los Angeles certainly could be warm and sunny but is far from guaranteed to be dry... San Diego is likely to be dry, and can get quite warm/hot (first weekend in March hit the 80s when I was there - a bit too warm for me to feel comfy, so I went off to San Francisco, guaranteed to be cooler so may not be ideal for you).

If you want to relax 'on the beach' then Penang can be hot - watch for sunburn!

But if sightseeing is part of how you enjoy time away, then Thailand certainly has a deal of variety - though Pattaya (beach resort) is perhaps not the place to go (I've not visited, but suspect it would be mostly bars and noise, so not as relaxing as somewhere further north would be)... and while Bangkok might have a lot of hussle and bussle you can get out of the city on relaxing river cruises, or visiting temples, and, (depending on the hotel) could just relax by the pool, if that's what you prefer.

Singapore is warm and sunny but I found it rather humid and while showers are often brief and welcome, it was sticky even at 2am, and unfortunately I was only there for 3 nights so cannot say I had chance to find out much about places to go.

A friend had regular holidays in Goa - must admit I've not yet visited in February, but worth checking, perhaps.

South Europe?Greece, try Santorini Islands.Or if u want something really exotic, try Asia. We've always loved the sun & sea at the beautiful islands there in Malaysia, whenever we leave Sweden.Food is cheap, exchange of currency is great. Not too much tourist unlike Phuket, Thailand, wer they cater most to Europeans.I personally prefer more "quiet" islands.Good luck hunting!

We went to the Caribbean a couple of years back at the beginning of Feb. Weather was ace and we visited a load of different islands. I would definetely do it again. Jamaica was nice, British Virgin Islands were beautiful (good for snorkelling and diving), Dominican Republic beaches were the closest to heaven I can think of!

Egypt would be good as would Morocco. You can get a cheap flight to Morocco now with easyjet and Ryanair.
