Would it be ok if I just let them keep my income taxes for the next 2 or 3 years to pay if off rather than be put on a payment plan that i cannot really afford? i agreed to $200 a month. i only owe the money back because i had a girlfriend who had a little girl and she said i could claim her since i provided for her. we were living together for a year, but then we broke up. she moved in with me and i didnt put her on the lease or anything. Quite frankly, I dont want to get her or the child involved because we haven't spoken in awhile.

You said that you made payment arrangements for 200 a month with the IRS, you need to make sure to make that payment every month, when you file your taxes this year, they will keep any refund you have coming to pay towards the balance until it is paid in full. you can not just let the refund amounts pay it off the IRS will not allow a balance to just sit with no monthly payments. You will be charged interest and penalties on this until it is paid in full

You claimed the child illegally - the mother did not have the authority to give you permission to claim the child. That's why you now owe the money. Getting your ex-gf involved wouldn't change that.

If you agreed to $200 a month, you'd be wise to stick to the agreement unless you don't care if the IRS starts seizing your belongings to satisfy some of what you owe. Yes, they'll keep any refunds until it's paid off - but you will continue to accumulate interest and penalties until it's paid.

No, that won't help you much since penalties and interest will continue to accrue until it's paid in full. If you don't stick to your payment plan, they can attach your bank accounts and garnish your wages.

The reason for your deliquency is irrelevant. You cheated and got caught. Take it like a man and pay up.
