I met him recently through a mutual friend and then he started e-mailing me (we're both on Match.com) He seems really nice and I'm interested in him. I noticed his profile says "never married." I'm wondering if this should be a kind of "red flag." I haven't asked him about it yet - I didn't want to put him on the spot. But what is your opinion of how a guy can reach 50 years old and never have been married?

People always say "better never married than divorced a bunch of times" There is such a thing as 1 DIVORCE. The clear view of this question is, the person concerned and asking is not asking a dumb question as someone said above, but is concerned that the never married middle-aged person may not want to get married but the OTHER PERSON (inquirer) wants to get married! Yes I would say it is cause for concern if YOU want to marry and this other person is 40-50 and never married . Average American male marries by 27, female younger. 40, 50 is way past that. Not to say it never happens, but bottom line is be very cautious IF YOU want to get married and someone is well past middle-age and never married. Have an honest conversation. If they say "I don't believe in marriage" then you know to move on if you want marriage. But if you don't care about marriage either, give it a try and see where it goes. I personally am leery of the response "Oh, I haven't met the right person." Ok, in 25 YEARS you haven't met anyone "good enough to ride your ride?" No one quite measured up? Red flag! If no one has been good enough or "the right person" in alllllll those years, no one ever will be!

Just because he is 50 and unmarried doesn't mean he has never been in a long term relationship. I am 46, never married and when I was growing up I wanted to be successful, being married was not a goal I had established. I was in a 26 year relationship and he did ask me to marry him. Give the guy an opportunity to explain why he never married. Good luck.

There could be many reasons, maybe he just hasn't met the right person. My boyfriend of 6 years has never been married and doesn't want to get married. I have been married and couldn't care less whether I marry again or not. It doesn't seem weird to me that he has never married and doesn't want to. Some people have the mentality that marriage is nothing but a piece of paper.

I don't know if it's a red flag but he's going to be pretty stuck in his ways. My friend married a 40 year old man who was never married and their biggest problem is he's very picky about small details. Like how clean the carpet is...

A lot depends on his personality. My brother never married until he was 47. He was kind of shy and not worldly. The women he met were usually left overs from bad marriages and already had kids and carried a lot of baggage, so he just never hooked up. He found his match finally and married someone who never had been married before and they had their 1st child 4 yrs ago.

Honestly, I'd be more worried about a guy who'd been married a bunch of times rather than one who hasn't at all. Maybe he just hasn't met the right person. Maybe he doesn't want to get married. There could be several reasons. I'd ask him why he never got married and make my decision from there.

I work with a woman that is 47 and never been married. She just says it never happened that way and she sees no problem with it.

Maybe your being too harsh on the whole thing cause hes not been married. if your interested in the man then ask him, its internet dating, what can go wrong? :)

These are the golden men. The one's who DON'T go chasing every skirt around. They wait for the perfect girl to come to them, which is why they are never married.

On the other hand, they could just be waiting for the perfect package. The one that doesn't exist.

On the other hand, they may be just playboy's. Why committ when you can have everything you want without committment?

Don't throw up a "red flag". That's judgemental without understanding where they are coming from.

If you have a quetion, you should ask him. You have to be honest in a relationship and if that is on your mind, I can't see why he would be offended at you asking.

There could be many reasons, he could be a low down dirty snake or he might have just not found the right woman. I am close to 35 and haven't found the right woman yet myself. So it might not be a red flag.
