Are you referring to the ban in the bars and buildings? Then yeah it's Big Brother (AKA Anti-smoking agencies) . These guys will not rest until tobacco is formally extinct. Despite the billions of dollars it generates, that is not enough for these nazis.

I speak to you as an ex-smoker. Did I quit because they said so? Hell no. I quit because child-hood asthma came back in my 20s, so I was forced into it. But do I support smokers rights? Absolutely. It has been proven in over 100 tests , from 1993 to today, that second-hand smoke caused cancer in 1 out of 130,000 people. If you adjust that to the global population , its less than 1% , meaning that it is most likely not the tobacco , rather than other health abnormalities.

This information is free to public with a simple search online. So my point is, if second-hand smoke DOESN'T kill ,then why in the hell should it be banned. That is just adjust YOUR lifestyle for someone else and that is really immoral and boarders illegal.

I will agree with them when they say smoking causes cancer, direct-smoking that is. I've seen it's damage, it wiped out a few of my family members already. But that is the smoker's choice, if you want the risk? Then smoke, that is YOUR decision, hence the warning on the side of the pack. As long as your smoke doesn't bother others then your fine, which it doesn't so smoke up man!

As for the moles the anti-smoking agencies are sending in? I say hold 'em down, gang up on them and blow them "shot-guns" from a nice fat Monte-Cristo , then throw them in the streets, about like the Colonist did with tar and feathers during the Stamp Tax act!

Oh stop you whining. I'm a smoker and I can tell you this...it wasn't the cops who decided to enact this law. Talk to your pals in the legislature. You think we truly enjoy getting a call to go to the local bar or bistro because some patron is pissed because some other patron lit up a smoke? And just what sre you going to do...ignore it? Its an enacted law. Agree with it or not you have to tell the guy to grind out the butt. If he refuses then give him his ticket. If he lights another, take him into custody. I can't think of a single cop who'd be thrilled to make a custodial arrest for smoking in a bar or restaurant.
There's a seatbelt law too. Think I really give a damn if you don't wear one. Nope. You see...it's your life. As far as I'm concerned, you don't wear a seatbelt and end up a broken, twisted mass of flesh on the road after being ejected from your car...great! I get great $$$$ for the overtime the fatal accident investigation will entail. Thanks for being a sacrifice to the overtime gods pal.
Get real man...if this were anywhere close to a police state this would be the first and very last question of this nature you'd be asking on here.

This is a big issue all over the world. Even the French are banning smoking, I mean come on, the French?
There is a big brother element, to be sure, but hey that's the way of the world.

The "Life starts at conception" police will have a priest in every bedroom. There will be mandatory pregnancy tests at all airports and ports to ensure people don't get offshore abortions. Cars will come with built in breathalyzers to prevent drunk drivers. RFID chps will be imbedded in the skulls of everyone. Buildings will be linked to the CIA computers and prevent all but the Chosen Few enter or exit. Chastity belts will be installed on all children at aged 8 and only be released after a full DNA scan and Government approval.

Oh, sorry, thought you wanted the plot line for Gattica.

Paid snoopers already exist. They spy on people who don't agree with the government, who demonstrate, who don't go along with the crowd. Who dare suggest that oil is the thing that moves our wars along...

Paid snoopers being mostly right wing brainwashees, probably all smoke and most likely wouldn't spy on other smokers.

You fear all the wrong things.

Go enjoy a cigarette. No one is going to take that away from you because it keeps you down, unhealthy and addicted to something, all qualities the government likes in its compliant citizens.

Nose picking, farting in public, scratching yer butt, not using pelican or zebra crossing point to get across the road, talking out of turn, swearing at football matches, (believe it or not that actually happened to me years ago,for swearing at a Friend) well the mind boggles indeed. Would still love to see proper enforcement on mobile phone users in cars or any vehicle,as yet not fully acted out,as I see people flaunting this law every day. This act is more dangerous than smoking in public. This Government has it's priorities well screwed up.Just my humble opinion.

oh no, of course not. This is for the betterment of "society". Soon, so will banning guns, fried food and saying mean things about eachother. With any luck, in our new, purely vanilla society in a few years, nobody will be mad at eachother and everyone will be super happy and full of peace.

When the smoking ban came in in Ireland, it was the other customers who reported violations, and the big hefty fine imposed on the premises was enough for landlords to enforce it, you won't need spy's

They snoopers, also known as good citizens, will probably report any other illegal activity they see. Smoking is offensive and should be illegal.
