Because exercise boosts your metabolism through your day. So you burn calories all day. It's not about what some machine tells you you're doing. Besides if you burn 2000 calories doing exercise, what about the rest of your day when your heart is still pumping and your body still spending fuel? If you did that you'd lose weight very fast and not be able to maintain it. You'd die I suppose.
So, again, during the day you burn calories, your heart beats, you move about, every movement burns calories. This is your metabolism. Exercise boosts it and makes it work better. That's how the numbers add up. Hope this helps.

Just by sleeping you burn over 1.000 calories. You burn calories even by just seating there reading this. Watching TV for 2 hours burn up to 200 calories. Eating burns calories, everything burns calories, even stading perfectly still!!!
