The benefits of drinking milk have been widely promoted. Except when one is lactose intolerant, are there other instances when milk is not good for the individual?

I read once that you don't need milk any more after you turn 14. But, on the other hand, milk is a good source of calcium so if you get calcium from other sources and want to drop milk, that'd be fine. I switched drinking 'whole' milk for 1% and dropped a few lb's in just a couple of months.

Yes. For me. I cannot drink milk because my body already has a high Vitamin D level & seems to absorb calcuim more than the normal person ( I actually have stronger than normal bones because of all the calcuim). It's actually a big disadvantage b/c I love drinking milk & love cheese, but, can only have 1 serving of it in a day. So, if I have a grilled cheese sandwich, I cannot have a yogurt or an ice cream or anything else that has calcium/vitamin D in it for the rest of the day. I can't even take a multi-vitamin, due to all of them containing vitamin D. It's horrible :( I believe the technical term is hypervitaminosis D.

The benefits of drinking pasteurized, homogenized milk are questionable. Aside from people being lactose intolerant we lose the ability to properly digest milk as we age. Milk is for babies.

Keep in mind that the people who are promoting the benefits of drinking milk (and keeping it on the foodguide) are the people who are selling it. It's really not as beneficial as they would have you believe. Contrary to popular belief, milk actually takes the calcium out of your bones.

I've also heard that milk isn't good for you when you are sick and coughing. It doesn't help with the cough.
