In spite of decades of trying, nobody's found any permanent damage from smoking cannabis, not even the Federal Government that funded studies in hopes of proving it. It's a myth, an urban legend. The only real risk is that 1) you get stoned while smoking it, which means you shouldn't be doing anything that you shouldn't be doing when drinking, and 2) you could get fined or jailed. The greatest risk of smoking cannabis comes from the fears certain people have about it.

I've seen many former potheads give up the habit and return to normal and indistinguishable from other people. They can't tell the difference either.

There is a significant risk of paranoia and depression. In young adults there is a risk of psychosis. As many cannabis users smoke their weed, they are also at risk of smoke-related disorders. For many people the risk is to their lifestyle. Getting stoned at night makes it difficult to get up in the mornings which over time affects education/work. This frequently becomes a vicious cycle as then a joint is needed to feel better/chill out during the day. Add to this the legal implications, the risks are potentially great.

The risks are that it can impair your judgement,in some it can cause mental health problems and in others it can be a gateway to using stronger drugs. Its all dependant on the individual .Some people can use it for years and remain relatively OK , others can have serious problems. More research needs to be done to find these things out so that people know what they are dealing with. Another obvious risk is that is actual smoking and the fact that it can cause cancer.

Kay well I was a big pot head for about 2 years... It doesn't really seem to affect you whatsoever when your doing it. However One joint is like 4 ciggarettes, so you could get lung cancer, and supposively there are alot of chemicals that are cancer causing. If weed makes you do anything with your life- its nothing- It makes your irritable and unmotivated. If you do it enough you turn burnout- don't care about anything and your pretty stupid. Munchies- makes you hungrey so this could make you fat. Guys have to watch out for becoming skitzo, Im a chick and it practically turned me skitzo, Im hot tempered to boot, so when i got mad all hell broke lose. I havent done it for a few years now, and everything is better, back on track..

Sure it adds some memories and fun times to look back on,
mostly laughing at how stupid and fuccked up u were back in the day but at the same time I woul d never go back and doo it again and I recommend you don't go in that path.

Cannibus contains THC, tetrohydorcannabinol. This chemical is stored in the brain cells and will become part of your braincell, It will replace the cells your body forms nomally. If you smoke 4 joints to get high initially, you will not realize you are constantly building up the THC and soon you will only need 1 to impair you but you will not know it. Soon the THC becomes the majority of the brain and you become what was known as, in the 60's and 70's and is still a valid point today, a "Mushhead." People might disagree but they don't realize they are becoming mushheads. Medicinal purposes? That depends on what the sickness is. Too much room for abuse at the moment. Good luck

The risks of smoking cannabis are clear and evident.

1. You are smoking, so whatever the effects of the cannabis, you have to add the effects of the tobacco, and/or the negative effects of any hot smoke in your throat and lungs.
Advice - If you are determined to do it, then smoke as little as possible to reduce health risks.
2. You will be high, and have a different behaviour from your normal behaviour, which could eventually be dangerous to yourself or others.
Advice - If you are going to smoke cannabis, and its effects are going to be new to you, then try to pick a safe place to do it just in case.
3. You will be breaking the law (unless you are in one of the many countries that permit the substance, i.e. Portugal, Switzerland, Holland, Cambodia, Nepal, etc.) so you run the risk of getting caught and incurring a prosecution or warning. If you are under 18, your parents will also be informed.
Advice - If you are going to do it, then stay out of public places, and always avoid carrying any yourself.
4. Using any mind-altering substance for recreational purposes ( alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, and all similar drugs can become a social dependence for you and your friends. After a while, you may find it strange to see each other and not get high/drunk, and end up doing it every time you see your friends.
Advice - If you are going to smoke, make sure you don't let it become a daily habit, and make sure you spend time with your friends without smoking, too.

5. Concerning any health risks specific to cannabis itself, most scientists are still out on that. Some studies indicate long term brain damage, others indicate positive effects on avoiding disorders such as Alzheimer's . Short term memory loss seems to be unanimously accepted as a risk of cannabis.
Advice - If you are going to do it, try to keep consumption down to a minimum.

6. Often being distributed by unscrupulous types, commercial cannabis can be mixed with other substances to gain weight, and therefore increase profit. Some of these substances can be dangerous for your health. For example, In France recently the police seized cannabis that had been mixed with ground glass. When smoked, this is said to be extremely harmful to the lungs.
Advice - If you are going to do it, make sure it is good quality and from a reliable source.

To recap, if you are going to smoke cannabis anyway but want to minimize the risks, then; smoke as little as possible, try to pick a safe place to do it, stay out of public places and always avoid carrying any yourself, don't let it become a daily habit, try to keep consumption down to a minimum, and make sure it is good quality and from a reliable source.

Is (are) there any risks in smoking canbabis? Too right. You start smoking canbabis, next you're sniffing caffeine, eventually you're living in a hovel injecting a heron into your veins. It's a slippery slope mate.
I would encourage developing an addiction to spellchecker.

Not only does cannabis give the same risk factors as smoking cigarettes in terms of lung cancer, throat and mouth cancer etc, it can indeed be a cause of or trigger psychosis - cannabis psychoses are not pretty.
