I don't see how a cop can live off 25 thousand a year.

I'm sure anything is possible! We do know for sure they shake down the dealers and take their money! That answers the $25,000 a year question!
I think all of government is in on the deal because they are all getting "kick back" in one form or another from Washington right down to your local PD!
Let's face it, government controls anything and everything else they choose to so what makes drug dealing any different?
It's a well known fact in our area that one of the local PD officers is the biggest dealer in town but protected by his position. One of the other officers is on the Drunk Driving Task Force and can be found at one of the bars any night of the week!
You figure out the answer!!!

Yeah, I make 24 thousand a year as an Admin Ast. and I work part-time at night as a waitress where I make more money than at my day job!!!

And YES some cops do sell drugs on the side. There was a big set-up here in DE where the supervisors planted drugs in a car and the cop didn't turn all of it in.

And actually, cops make way more than that here.

I've noticed that several of your questions seem to be anti-law enforcement oriented. Questions like "Are all cops racists?", "Do cops sell drugs?" also several of your answers to other questions display your disdain for this profession.

To answer your question; I've heard about certain police officers selling drugs. They were arrested and I sincerely hope they get the maximum penalty. There is nothing worse than a crooked cop.

That said, I hope you understand that cops are ordinary people and are selected from the same fabric of society that every other job selects from. There is a pretty tough screening process, but you are going to get some bad ones that sneak through. They may not start off bad, but in time their morality decays and they "turn bad".

I would estimate that 95-99% of police officers are good law-abiding people. In much the same way that probably the same percentage of clergy are good people. However when one of these gets caught doing something wrong, it is highly publicized (as it should be) and people make the general perception that they are all like that. For example, out of the thousands of Catholic priests in the world, a few have been accused of molestation of children. These are highly publicized events because, like police officers, they are in the public trust and have betrayed that trust and should be punished accordingly.

Yes some police officers are racist, some steal, some sell drugs, some even plant evidence. These are rare, but highly publicized events. Those that do these things have no place in law enforcement or any other profession where they are in the public trust. Your questions seem to lump all these cops in one catagory, when in actuality, of the 95-99% good officers, most hate the bad officers and will bust their butts if they get a chance. A criminal is a criminal.

First of all cops do much better than 25K a year.

Second, it is not pay that leads to crime. When I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca they arrested 12 Military Police for transporting drugs right through post. As MPs they made the same military wages as everyone else stationed there but I never saw anyone else do it. I am glad when I see a police officer disciplined or arrested. I am glad because it shows the system is working. I don't think it proves they are all bad.

Why do you ask such slanted questions anyway? If you were seriously trying to ask about police wages you would first ask what the salary range was and then you would ask about OT, special assignments, etc. This is just you trying to make some kind of political statement. If you don't like cops, try living in country without the rule of law for a while.

I live on half that much, so I could do it. I'm single and live alone and don't have a car or all that much wealth, of course... dang, now you've got me depressed...

depends where they live. In New York City the police are notorious for working on both sides of the law. Sometimes they form connections with organized crime that are completely corrupt, sometimes they merely provide protection, or at least look the other way, for vices like drugs, gambling, prostitution, in exchange for mob cooperation in catching more serious criminals, and other payoffs.
I've heard from firsthand witnesses how, when a shipment of dangerously pure heroin hits New York streets, the police have been known to drive down ghetto streets with bullhorns warning junkies to avoid a particular brand. Public safety in action. That alone doesn't mean they're selling it, of course, but they're close enough to it to know about it before the users do. And I've heard many times about New York cops skimming and selling from what they bust, but mostly I think they get protection money from distributors.

The 60's and 70's are over. If they sell drugs they'd be getting caught cause everyone is watching much closer now. This is a new generation cops can't pee w/out getting the boss' permission. NYC people! 25,100 to start! Try living in NYC on that. The ones who can't make it are quitting by the droves.

I live on a little less than that a year raising a child by myself with no outside help so why shouldn't they? I'm sure if they are married their wives work also. I'm also sure that there are crooked cops out there on the take just like other people with no scruples and I'm sure they sell some of the drugs they take on raids.

For 1 person, 2k a month is plenty. For 2, the spouse is probably bringing in income as well.

25k is start pay, and turn-over rate is very high because most transfer to high paying precincts once they get the experience.

I'm sure there are a few that do, but most are officers because they take pride in what they do.

You know, I worked in a jail as a counselor to the inmates and i heard rumors between inmates that some of the deputies did in fact do this, but I do not know if it is true. Some police officers recently got busted in my hometown for having something to do with drugs, so im sure it happens in a lot of places
