are you giving an example of belief/faith? If so, then your perspective of faith would be in believing that there is a higher power though you do not see it....nor at times physically feel it. An Ocean can see...feel...smell...and taste...so you know its there...spiritual faith or belief can be said to be something that you internally feel, know and accept on your own free will....maybe I touched on your question...then again...maybe not!

The difference between the Ocean and God (which I believe is where your question is heading) is that if you don't believe in the ocean, that's irrational because you can SEE and FEEL the ocean.

If you don't believe in God, nobody can prove that God exists the same way you can prove the ocean exists.

For the record I'm an agnostic (i.e. not sure whether there is a God)

It would be hard not to believe in the ocean. The damned thing is enormous, wet, measurable and dangerous.

Metaphors always break down, but not usually that easily.

I think you shoulod take "sho-nuff's" answer seriously. The point is you will be submerged EVEN if you "believe" you can walk on it. Reality works.

Zeus or God - which supernatural being is the "real" one?

Yup. And no amount of praying is going to change that fact.
