My friend, who is 20 years old right now, didn't go to college. When she was in the 9th grade, she started independent study, with out acctually studying; she failed high school. Now she is learning english and hopes that she can get a high school diploma after she learns how to speak english well. So, my question is: even though she failed high school and probably knows as much as an 8th grader, can she still study and get a diploma? If so, where? She currently lives in San Diego.
Thanks in advance.

Well, I'm canadian so I don't know to much about american eduacation laws. But in Canada if you've been out of school for two years, say working or something, you can enter post-secondary as a mature student instead of through the regualar methode. That might be something she could look into to see if a school near-by has it

If she passes the G.E.D. exams, with a minimum of 70% she can get a diploma--no one said that you had to be a rocket scientist to get a GED, and unfortunately with the lack of education focus that the government has (like the "no child left behind cr*p) it is simple for a person with only an 8th grade education to pass test if they have studied the materials provided to get the GED. And you can be any age and get a GED, as well as the GED program is offered in different languages such as spanish etc.

And for those who don't know what a GED is--it IS a General Education DIPLOMA---just like a high school diploma.
