YOUR BEST BET IS TO
CALL YOUR PHYSICIAN AND SEE IF YOU CAN GET A LESSER STRENGTH AND JUST TAKE THEM A LITTLE MORE OFTEN -like 4-6 times a day- THAT WILL NOT HURT YOU ONE BIT! THE DR IS WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU- Just tell him. Not every one can handle that amount.
I have a medication-- example percocet comes in 10/500
or 10/325-- I just asked for the 5/325 and instead of 90 (3-3x a day, I can take 6 i a day if needed.) See what i mean. this way -I am not breaking anything and I still get the full effect.

Absolutely NO! If you break its integrity you lose the extended-release property, and 40 mg released rapidly may be fatal. The normal immediate-release dose is 5 to 10 mg. One wonders how you got the things to start. It's standard to start low and work up slowly. You'll just have to get a lower-strength prescription. If the pills you have weren't prescribed for you, you're playing Russian roulette (and committing a felony). Since you say you've spoken to a pharmacist, I assume that's not the case, and I apologize in advance.

You're going to trust random people on Yahoo! Answers before trusting a pharmacist?
That's a bit ridiculous.
By my speculation, it wont last at all. It's not the acting time that will be affected by cutting the pill in half, it's the effect of the pills altogether.
They will not do their job.

Extended release pills are specially made to disolve in layers, so that a trickle of the active compounds gets into the blood stream at any one time, instead of a flood like other pills.
Splitting an extended release pill in half will very likely destroy its extended release ability, and will be disolved much faster. So, I think they are rightly worried that if you cut them they'll be even stronger, but last for less time.

You cannot cut extended release tablets in half. If you do, they will no longer be extended release but regular release. Sometimes they might dump too much medication into your system. They come in smaller doses and you can just switch to that.

Not sure what you are using this for but why not try a natural product since the drugs are too strong. Look at healthquest.peoplesway.com. Also you can go to youtube and search peoplesway to see a video on the products. Since these products are natural they will not interfere with medications.

Extended release caplets are not meant to be messed with. Like an answer said, the "layers" will get messed up
